BSC 2018: Overlord's Folly (Finished - Unpainted)
« on: January 12, 2018, 02:39:02 AM »
This years theme has had me rather stumped.  I couldn't think of anything that would fit in with current projects without a significant amount of shoe-horning or a merely tenuous link.  I therefore began thinking more generally.....

Something ill-advised would likely be considered folly; Therefore I have decided to build a Folly or tower.  As it won't be for a specific project and I will likely have no use for afterwards (just like a real Folly!), it will be a fantasy influenced piece.  I may subsequently then be able to sell it on to someone for Frostgrave, Warhammer or similar.

The last fantasy building I made was likely more than 20 years ago, but I'm rather looking forward to it (presuming I have enough free time, as I am currently building stuff for someone else which really should take priority)

I don't have  a specific design in mind, but it won't be as large (or legendary, or mysterious) as Jimbibblys Wizards TowerTM  ;)
Small blue foam blocks may be involved though...

Good luck to all the other participants and thanks to Vanlak for raising his head above the parapet to run the contest.

What’s wrong with tenuous links? Without them we probably wouldn’t have half the entries this year....including mine! ;)

What about a more modern folly to go with your Aliens dropship? Maybe with a landing pad too?

I did consider it, but I will stick with the Folly.

The Pringles tube has been cut down in height.  The tube and cork bark glued to the 3mm MDF base with exterior PVA.

The stonework has started; adding individually cut blue-foam blocks with PVA.  Each layer is allowed to partially dry out before the next is applied.  I have also made a start on the door; plastic card, enscribed with planking and woodgrain.

A full-frontal picture for all those Pringle aficionados!

A close-up of the stonework so far. Larger stones at the bottom.  The smaller size stones will continue to the top.  The jaunty camera angle suggests the stones aren't horizontal, but they are.  I drew lines around the tube at intervals to help keep things level as I worked.

It’s not a proper project until you stick on little blue foam bricks! Are you going to put wrought iron on the door? Maybe some bracing or a big handle?
