Flying skiffs
« on: January 16, 2018, 11:43:35 PM »
I had neglected these for too long, but I've finally assembled them. I saw this flying barge by MadMechaGuy and I liked it so much that I got two in fact. Really intuitive to assemble, I had no instructions but managed to built it just from the finished pictures of the product in the web. Process downside...

And upside!

So the basic shape of the thing is this:

I wanted some kind of recreation barge, quite in the Return of the Jedi style, but for my RT/WH40K setting. So I begun to add stuff.

Once painted I came to this:

I should have added armchairs or a table with wine and fruit, but given the time I used on it, I think I'm happy. Look at the size!

But I told you I got two. I went totally opposite for the second one, an industrial cargo barge:

The simplicity of the design is particularly up to it for this purpose, I love it. The front text (Fodinae Corporatio) reads just as 'Mining Guild' in Imperial Gothic ;)

Again, look the size of this beast:

I have some ideas for them in a couple of scenarios. I guess mostly as scenery, but they can add some fun on the move too ;D

You can find them here too:

Hadn't seen those before and now quite tempted, especially with the industrial paintjob.

The 28mm skiff is here, if anyone else is tempted.

They also do a 15mm version. It would be interesting to see if it would work as a smaller 28mm skiff as well, as this one does seem quite large.

You've done a great job with these :)

As a terrain piece, they look great but I feel they lack detail and suffer from the usual 'laser cut from wood' appearance that so much of this type of kit does. It would be a good basis for an up-detailed version though.

I think the blocky nature of mdf actually plays into the industrial look in this case. I got a bit of the Firefly mule vibe from the kit and could see these being used on some dead end moon somewhere

Nice job.

The MDF construction suits the industrial one better, but the first one is good.

Very nice - I like the industrial barge’s rugged looks

Thank you! I also enjoy the industrial one more than the luxury skiff, I guess that's right, the bulky, sharp-edged appearance looks more in the mood for the cargo barge. I made both of them along last weekend, so I didn't spend too much time adding details and stuff; I think they could benefit of some more work and detailing, but for the moment they'll do their part.

Great work!
I've had my eye on these for sometime now... it sucks that the Mad Mecha site hasn't been processing orders for well over a year now....
Has anyone been able to make contact with the owner to find out if the site store will open anytime soon?

I got them quite a while ago; contact him, he had some issues about payments through the online shop, so I think I payed it using Paypal or something.
