Khurasan releases the 15mm Mighty Hobgoblin Army
« on: January 17, 2018, 08:41:49 PM »
We are very pleased to release our latest 15mm fantasy range, the Mighty Hobgoblin Army.  These creatures are as cruel and pitiless as Orcs but as brave and disciplined as men.  They are larger than humans, the models being about 18mm tall to the eye (so might also make useful goblins in 28mm scale as well).

The mounted hobgoblins ride Entelodonts, an actual extinct species of large and aggressive flesheating pig-like creatures from the Oligocene Epoch.

The Mighty Hobgoblin Army is available here:
http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/15mmfantasy.html

There are six sets in this release:

Hobgoblins with longswords

Hobgoblins with pikes

Hobgoblin archers

Hobgoblin infantry command

Hobgoblin Hellhog Riders

Hobgoblin Hellhog Command

These are absolutely splendid - I love the entelodonts!

If your stuff was readily available in the UK, I'd be making endless impulse purchases ...

If I sold them to a UK distributor I would not be able to make back my investment in having them sculpted, cast and painted for sale.

These are a great addition.
Now, if you had some elves in mail I  would have everything I needed for a Silmarillion mass battle.

Elves will be made right after the dwarves altough they don't wear much in terms of mail in the silmarillion. At most they are described as wearing just a little, for the most part gaining their protection from their lightning reflexes and shields.

As Luke Ueda-Sarson says:

Noldorin forces were generally a mixture of cavalry and infantry. Cavalry was quite numerous (Sil, p147), although prior to the founding of the princedoms, horses were few (Sil, p141). Some charged swiftly (Sil, p230), but most were horse archers (Sil, p138, 193). Charging cavalry are assumed to be those that carried spears (Sil, p213); they are graded as Kn (F) since even the highest nobility used mail which is never mentioned as being 'full', unlike that of the knights of Gondor (eg. Sil, p184).

The dwarves are being made right now. They will be command, nobles in heavy armour with axes, warriors with axes, warriors with various melee weapons, and archers.

Either way, I will be interested to see what you come out with, but I would disagree with elves and armour or lack of it.  Without going back to the book I recall that the Noldor, before leaving Aman, had tall helms and shields.  No mention is made of armour at that time.  The Sindar were armed and armoured by the dwarves and use of mail is mentioned.  The Green Elves of Ossiriand were badly mauled because they were only lightly armed.
I am sure there are later comments about armour and Noldor, and I am sure there is mention about the orcs being frightened by the bright mail of the elves.  Turin had armour left for him by Turgon.  Turin also remarked on the long shields of the Noldor - he was not accustomed to these. The long shields imply heavy infantry, not light infantry tactics (although, many Greek hoplites relied on shield and not armour, so you could be right here).  The infantry from Gondolin certainly suggest heavy infantry.

Anyway, as mentioned, I will look forward to whatever you come out with and fully accept that they are your range of figures.
