Future of the Bazaar?
« on: January 30, 2018, 12:53:39 PM »
I am a big fan of Northstar products however with regard to them taking over the running of LAF, my only reservation at this stage is that the Bazaar might be a casualty? I have found the Bazaar a useful place to unload unwanted stuff and "oo shiney" purchases and projects for which my fickle enthusiasm has faded. I suspect it won't be in Northstar's commercial interest to keep the Bazaar going as we will be encouraged to buy new stuff (from Northstar) and they won't be keen on alternatives to their products being sold?

I wouldn’t worry! You weren’t forced to by Lead Adventure Miniatures before, I don’t see why that would change now... :?

So far there has been no mention of any changes to the various boards. Nick has said he does not intend to alter things, so I don't think you have cause for concern.

Surely Lead Adventure Miniatures are for fairly niche areas of the hobby and wouldn't present an alternative to most stuff traded on the Bazaar?

It wouldn't be a very smart move. Shutting down the bazaar would create resentment and bad will towards North Star as a company, and there's no guarantee it would result in any extra sales. If anything it would probably make people say "well f... them, that's the last they'll see of any of my money."

So I don't think it's all that likely. It wouldn't be worth it.

If anything at all, it might represent an opportunity for them. It gets people in a buying mood and anyone looking for something not presently up for sale in the Bazaar might be persuaded to swing by Northstar instead. You know; since they're in the neighbourhood anyway... ;)

I'm not sure that potential scaremongering (or worrying if you prefer) regarding the 'takeover' of LAF by Northstar is helpful.  I would suggest that everyone waits and sees what changes if any are proposed and then react to them.  As far as I understand Nick has suggested that no changes will be made other than introduce a thread covering Northstar products much as Alex has with Lead Adventure Miniatures.

I trust the moderators to ...moderate on our behalf.  ;)

Not scaremongering or worrying. Should the fate of the Bazaar be under consideration at some future date then the preemptive views expressed as to how unpopular this would be would surely only help to preserve it?

On the contrary I feel the discussion is concluded for now. Let’s see what happens  :)
