Re: Whitechapel Horror! UD 21/01 - warehouse ‘flying’ bridge (wip)

It’s a good point and I actually sized them to fit between. Unfortunately there were restrictions:

(1) the wall hinges are set to the rear not to the centre (which I could remake albeit not quite so seamlessly)
(2) if the gates were hinged mid pillar then when opened they would eat into what is already a narrow vehicle access (it’s only just wide enough to take a hearse)
(3) I’m reluctant to increase the width of the roadway as it will reduce the space for graves etc

So my choices were

(A) mid hinged gates resulting in a too narrow roadway
(B) mid hinged gates requiring a too wide roadway
(C) rear hinged gates with optimal sized roadway

I compromised with (C)  :D

The warehouse ‘flying’ bridge now has clapboards with only roof tiling remaining to do (the roof angle is quite shallow to take minis).

Cheers Nick  :D

Before starting on the church tile, I laid everything out to see if the church tile or the overall layout needed any changes.

These are the two small builds that I’ve yet to spec and order so as to complete phase 1, they’ll add a lean-to workshop and a row of Georgian houses.

Proposed location of the church and rectory.

I decided that an area I’d routed out from the church tile to become cobbled road would become a small graveyard.

And so it begins:

Assuming I complete phase 1 (I’m amazed I’ve stayed focussed for this long!  :o), it will comprise:

1 x police station
2 x public houses
1 x slaughterhouse (3 parts building)
1 x warehouse (2 parts building)
1 x joiners workshop
1 x silversmiths workshop
1 x physicians house
1 x brothel house
1 x seamstress house
1 x butchers
1 x hardware store
1 x grocers
1 x cemetery (entrance only)
1 x church
1 x rectory
1 x church graveyard
13 x other houses

30 locations

+ 9 manholes as spawn points for vampires

Fantastic! Regarding the gates, if the hinges are set right to the back of the pier they could be set to open beyond 90 degrees, for those occasions when bigger hearses need access.

I’m in awe of this, it’s looking like the best terrain build I’ve ever seen, it had a real feel for time and place.  Keep that focus!
