Need Townfolk
« on: April 24, 2009, 07:12:50 AM »
Hi everyone!
I am gonna finish a huge building in medieval - enlightment style, and I really want to buy and paint some people of this time.

The point is that I'm not a wargamer and I will not use them for any game, so I really would like to buy a small number of minis of different ranges: some barmans, maybe a robber, maybe some prostitutes, and also some womans...

Does anyone knows some packs whit all together? maybe from Old glory? tell me, I'm waiting for your replies!
cheers
Sange

Try here:

Ral Partha have some good townsfolk sets, and not too expensive.

Those are Megaminis, their Kings Court and Townsfolk would suit what you want IMHO. They are 25mm size. Good solid stock.
Try these:

Personally, I very much like the townsfolk sculpted by Bobby Jackson for Reaper Miniatures. If they're a little cartoonish for your tastes, you should check out the medieval civilians that Mirliton sell. They do some nice scenic clutter as well and, as they're an Italian company, postage will be cheaper too!

I suspect you seek 25-28mm minis.
If you need medieval types try:
Mirliton of Italy:
http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?page=5&cName=medieval-accessories&sort=1a
lots of folks and accessories. they also have some vendors and a superb medieval court banquet!
see them here:
http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?cName=historical-2528mm-diorama-kits

If you need "enlightment" depending on the era you can see some of the following ranges:
Brigade games (milady and household servants), Foundry (medieval and later eras civilians, incl. a Queen Elizabeth), Eureka/fighting 15's (some of their civilian sets might be useful), OldGlory (pirates sets, governors & daughters etc), Irregular miniatures UK (camp followers in western and Eastern dress, plus medieval types) and many others like blackhat miniatures, blackcat bases, bluemoon manufacturing, Redoubt etc with some useful minis from the pirate ranges, three musketeers etc.
I would also recommend you to check Tradition of London website since they do have some useful minis- musicians, dancing ladies, village folks that might also be useful:

http://www.traditionoflondon.com/index.asp?page=http%3A//www.traditionoflondon.com/Products/ShowImage.asp%3FID%3D8735%26Typ%3DToy%26ID2%3D53

As a general point there is a difference in fashion between medieval and enlightment eras, so be careful!

When I was in Italy a few years ago, one of the guides kept talking about the Copper Age, I explained that in the UK we called it the Bronze Age.

In the UK the medieval period runs to about 1485 and the rise of the Tudors, the 16th and 17th are called the Renaissance, the 18th is called the Age of Enlightenment. Hope this helps as translations are not always exactly correct.

You are quite right!
In fact there is some defference between Copper and Bronze era, but it is not the scope of this thread.
The fact is that medieval fashion, let's say around Robin Hood era -1200+ or something similar- is much different than that of the enlightment era 1600+ !!!

OOPS! anyway yeah, I meant 1300 - 1600!!!!

First of all, thanks for your response!

Wow, Gamers Quest minis are splendid, but I'm not very shure about the casting. I mean, is it good? they seem a bit too... old...

Mirlinton has a lot of minis, but unfortunately I can't find small packs.
Ral partha has some nice minis, but the sculpting is not so great, so I'm not really convinced... For the Prostitutes (I'm building a Inn so I needs a lot of Harem)  I was Thinking about this (WARNING NUDITY)
http://www.bronzeagemin.com/miniatures_html/25MM/SCI-FI/Red%20Men/Dead-Earth-Harem-Queens1.htm
but there are too much minis.. maybe 2 or 3 should be fine...

I find the German company Alionas has some really nice ones.
Good castings too when I ordered from them a few years ago.

hi, i bought from megaminis via ebay the other day. here is there site.
http://stores.shop.ebay.com/MegaMiniatures_1-50-Town-Folk_W0QQ_fsubZ264506011QQ_sidZ2577791QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322
now postage is from America but is only about 5USD and is the same i think if you buy multiple packs.
i bought the blacksmith the carpenter and the meat seller dude, all of which were pretty nice sculpts and i say this for everyone in the future

THEY ARE NOT 25MM.

mine match perfectly with the rest of my 28mm minis. so doon't get bogged down with doubts.
also the carpenter is a particularly nice sculpt.

oh yeah, and there cheap !!!
