Waterloo (28mm) Report - DundraCon 2018
« on: February 21, 2018, 05:05:32 AM »
I know you are thinking ... not yet another Waterloo game ... good lord!  I couldn't help myself ... this is my take on it FWIW.

Finally got my Waterloo game all up and running at DundraCon 2018 this year. With over 4,500 28mm miniatures on an 8 foot by 18 foot table it was the largest game I've put on or played in. Had 10 players total and we used my Empires at War rules. Game was concluded in 12 hours (ha, longer than the actual battle!).

Tons of pictures on my blog here: https://jayswargamingmadness.blogspot.com/2018/02/dundracon-2018-and-waterloo.html

Some pictures to get you started …

That is just a small number of the pictures. Fun was had by all despite the time it took to play to conclusion – I was wiped out, but I really enjoyed myself. One for the history books for me.

Regards,

Jay

Incredible, a truly once in a lifetime gaming experience to be part of.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

L'Empire, baby !

And in God's Own Scale of 28mm too, with oodles of God's Own Perry figures  :D

Seriously, this is the real deal : Napoleonic wargaming at its very best, with all the time and effort involved in painting the armies and creating the terrain paying off more than handsomely.

Outstanding! One can never have too many Waterloo (or Borodino, or Leipzig) games.

Whilst it looks amazing it highlights a problem with 28 mm for me, the size of Hougemont, La Haye Saint, et al.  To get a building that looks right compared to the figures it completely dominates the battlefield in 28 mm.  So if it is right for the figures it is wrong for the battlefield and vice versa.

What a beautiful table - miniatures and terrain.  I'd like to see this in person.

Will be running this game again at KublaCon in May (in the San Francisco area) :-)
