Quick shout out for Aventine miniatures…
« on: November 24, 2023, 10:25:36 PM »
Superb service from Keith.

I’ve invested in the new Late Republican Roman figures.
Similar to the old Copplestone from Foundry, but not at ridiculous prices.

Many thanks.

Tim, glad to hear they are keeping standards up.  Those late Republicans look lovely but I already have a complete Foundry army. Vaguely on my radar is an Etruscan army using their figures. I have a A&A/Crusader Samnites and a "generic Greek" army, so an Etruscan army would let me fight "Magna Graecia".  However I still have 4 complete ancient armies in the painting stash!

Emperorbaz, I take your point about Foundry. A few years ago when they first hit the £14 price I would contend that if not "ridiculous", they were certainly very expensive, especially if building a big army. Since then Foundry have held their prices and others have increased theirs, thus narrowing the gap. If you take advantage of Foundry's Christmas sale the gap narrows to almost nothing. I plan to buy some of their Aztecs. Beautiful figures.

No doubting Foundry figures beauty, especially Copplestone stuff.

But if you take advantage of Aventine unit deals (which I have)
You save 0.38p a figure.

Saying that, if money was a deal breaker, I’d have bought Warlord plastic Romans!  lol

I’ve already got some Foundry Romans so I shall compare when my order arrives.

Tim indeed. I guess I was just trying to rectify the wide-held view that Foundry are stupidly expensive. In fact this was my view until about a year ago and I only bought them at Christmas . However having held their prices for a few years i would even pay their normal pack price!

Fair point.

It was the service that I received from Aventine that impressed the most rather than the 38p per figure cheaper deal.

Agreed. I've always found Keith a real gent when it comes to Customer service. He answers e-mails promptly and courteously and if he can he will sell you odd figures rather than insisting on a full pack.

Hello,

Some pictures of Aventine and Wargames Foundry Caesar ...

Aventine Roman legionaries are slightly higher than Wargames Foundry ...

Nikko, thanks.  Having seen these pictures I wouldn't mix them in the same unit but would have them in the same army.  I remember buying Aventine Imperial Roman command figures to go with Foundry 1st century AD Romans legionaries. They towered over them and ended up on E-Bay, being replaced by the smaller 1st Corps figures.
