Forum Appearance & Layout
« on: March 03, 2018, 06:15:49 PM »
I really, really do not enjoy the new layout.

I don't know how others feel, but the font size seems way too big and there's too much dead space on the margins.

Is it possible to add in a forum layout customisation option (or does it exist and I've been so blind that I've missed it)? Or to possibly edit the forum layout so that it's either closer to the old one or at least an improvement over the old one?

For me, the font size seems a tad smaller than on the old site.

On PC you can hold Control and roll the mouse wheel (or press + or -) to change the size of a website's font, by the way. Might help in lieu of some other solution. I think your browser will remember the size, at least for a while. Mine seems to.

For the first few times I came to the new pages,
everything seemed a little off. o_o
Now it seems fine.
I will say that I spend a lot of time on the Forum.
Maybe that has something to do with it.

The site seems to load - much - slower at times than before. The lay-out, it's something we have to get used to, I guess. No problems here...

I get the need for a new layout and such but that should not interfere with the function of the forum.

There are 2 main problems for me:

The left hand margin is much too wide now and has no real purpose except the latest post list. Yes you can turn it off but it only remembers that when you are logged in, if you are not it resets the wide column each time you go to a new forum or back to teh main page. Simple fix: that should default to "off" unless you want to switch it "on"

Secondly most of the images still spread out too far and are off the thread post area. OK when there is one and you get the scroll bar immediately below it, still a PITA but you can see it.
However if there are 7 or 8 pictures and the scroll bar is all the way down at the bottom you end up scrolling up/down/side/up/side/down over and over again. Or as has become my habit since the change over, don't bother looking at the pictures at all.
Again simple fix, just include a force resize code in the html.

These 2 faults have been raised several times now but still nothing has been done, even though we now have recoding for banner ads and pop ups.

I’m on an iPhone most of the time, and the forum is both slow and difficult to read. Pictures are way off, there is too much left margin as has been mentioned.

Edit: my issues seem to have sorted themselves out, no idea what was going on there.

As far as appearances go I'd say my only minor gripe is the use of the grey text. Keep thinking my eyes are screwed when I see it.

I am finding the site to be a bit slow at times though (on PC here).

It does seem we're all experiencing very different things. I have no idea why that should be. Are different browsers really dealing with the new site so differently? All I'm getting is that some people's signature graphics aren't showing and while I've heard mention that there are new banner ads I haven't seen them. I'm not using an ad blocker either.

Not getting weird formatting or pictures not fitting on the page, or a wide sidebar or any of that stuff.

The left hand stuff was much too wide on my screen (using Chrome) so I just turned it off in the settings

If "the powers that be" are taking requests. I would like for the colour of the names to be changed to something a bit more reader friendly.

I only ever browse on an iPhone and I’ve got used to it now! It’s pretty much permanently zoomed in.

Could it be a browser issue? I use Firefox and occasionally Chrome and I notice a marked improvement: despite the same background, I experience less eye strain, due to the clearer text and easier to notice thread titles, with highlighted stickied and locked threads.
