1/72 General Maitland at Waterloo, Airfix Style
« on: November 19, 2021, 01:29:04 PM »
So, this fella was done as a favour-for-a-favour trade with our own 'King of the Deal' Harry Faversham. It's the Airfix British Infantry officer, with his shako swapped out for a bicorn taken from a French generals box. The limitations of what is sculpted on the model itself, plus my own lack of knowledge about what he might have worn on the day notwithstanding, I have done my best to make a fairly faithful representation of the fella. Hopefully he will lead the guards brigade on the table for many years.

'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Excellent job. I'm sure 'arry will be 'appy.
You are (almost) persuading me into painting
some Airfix figures. That would be some 55 years
after I started doing that. :o :o :o

I'm loving it, I won't lie. The nostalgia is wonderful and finding ways to paint around or rectify the deficiencies of the early figures is almost a hobby in itself. I'm (very very slowly) trying to piece together an article about bringing the Airfix Highlanders up to code and painting a battalion of them (hopefully using every pose in the box), with proper uniforms, colour party and all.

Lovely, you wouldn't think he was an Airfix figure, superb job on him. Really looking forward to seeing your article on the Highlanders when it reaches fruition. :)

Absolutely spiffing old bean, all I need to do now is find out another 500 Airfix chariot wheels as swopsies.

Someone actually did that once - I saw him displaying work I'd done for him and claiming he'd painted them! I didn't paint anything else for him.
