Grand show, and you're never too old to play around with cannon. Remember, old Dragut (Turgut Rais if you prefer) was 80 when he was aiming artillery during the 1565 siege of Malta, only to be offed by a lucky cannon shot.

First real update:

A group of pathan riders.

The tally so far: 10 mounted

A little nut for you people to crack: I group my paint batches by certain criteria. What is the common denominator of these ten riders?

Are they an artistic  representation of the Afghanistan cricket team's inspiring performance in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament currently being held in Zimbabwe?

If so, you are a man short.

Current score: AFG vs. IRE 202-7 (49.2)

Honestly, I have no idea. I stared at them for ages but I've got nothing. But it's nice to see you painting again. :)

Thanks. You are trying waaay to hard, btw... The pattern to my way of painting is much more practical and right before your nose.

Another thing: am I using the term pathan wrong? As I understand the term it is interchangeable to to ”pashtun” but the latter is more often used for the language group rather than the ethnic group found in current day Iran, Afghanistan an Pakistan...

Well I was going to say that, but some seem to be light Chestnut/Palomino, and others are something else, possibly Dun. So I figured that wasn't it.  :)

As far as I know, Pathan is simply the Hindi word for Pashtun.

Pathan is what the British called them, so it is correct for period atmosphere. These days you don't hear it used much in modern context, though. Possibly because it makes you sound like an old colonial colonel reminiscing about the Raj.

Alright, thanks. I claim innocense but is old fashioned to a degree where it is offensive?

Since the clans of the NWF is a rather mixed bag (of persian, turk, sunni, shia... influences, from what I have read in various old and new sources) there is always an option to narrow down the terms to clan specifics or the much broader ”afghan”.

Huzzah!

Irregular troops are time consuming to paint and painting horses of various colouring to (plus not lot of fun to start with). With regular cavalry you can get by mounting the troopers on nags of a limited pallet (as they are bred on similar traits) and have the officers, trumpeters ... on more noticable coarsers.   Irregular cavalry look better on a wide variety of mounts. To get around this, when painting a lot of horses, I paint them in batches of the same coloring (personalizing them with blazes, socks, mane color and paint pattern).

First out here were the chestnuts.
