Difficult to choose as I like them both equally...

Need to also work more on my photography skills as no matter what I seem to do they are out of focus...

If you haven't tried this yet...Once the group is posed try some shots with and without Macro on.  With Macro OFF you might need to pull back a little.  (I find if I take a group shot with Macro on there is often a focus issue unless - check my photos - I line up the figures so the camera just can't focus on one figure.  If you see my photos where there are figures in foreground and bacjground and they are all in focus - I didn't use Macro.

I have but not properly or seriously, had a quick dabble and got annoyed ( that's how it gets me)

I have found that adjusting white balance works and using super macro is a bad idea

so the next round is taken in natural daylight, with macro.

the last two photo's on my blog have been done messing about with poses and white balance, have a look and tell me what you think.

Need to spend a bit more time and buy a tripod too I think ( a cheap one) or nab the one from work.

I bought a mini tripod from a camera shop for about a fiver. Actually I rarely use it though, mainly because I prefer 'ground level' shots of the minis rather than shots from above.

There's nothing called 'Macro' on the camera I use. I'm always puzzled when folks talk about that, as I've no idea what it is!  

I've got this mode called Aperture Value (Av). You set the aperture to the value you want and the camera figures out the exposure time required to get a good shot for the light level automatically. Takes quite nice shots even without fancy lighting. Crank it up about three quarters of the way and everything in the foreground will be in focus, with the background nicely blurred so as to direct the eye to the figures. Crank it up to full and every damn thing in the shot will be in focus. It's great for group shots, and avoids that thing where the camera wants to focus on just one guy, and you can't get it to pay attention to the rest of them. It's no good without a tripod and a timer (or remote) though: Blurry camera shake city.

It has made my LPL life much easier, as I'm a total photography novice. Reading that little book that came with the camera really payed off there!

The two photos look good - but the figures on the back row are still slightly out of focus.  This is because the camera is focusing on the nearest object(s)  Next time you are "experimenting" try the same settings with the figures lined up - bases touching.  If only to see how the photo turns out.

Sometimes it is just shown as a little tulip symbol (or it might be another flower - I'm not good at flowers).  But it sounds like you don't need it anyway!

Yup it's a tulip.

I was talking to a guy I work with and he talked about AV, can't find that on my camera so maybe thats what this macro stuff is all about maybe AV and macro settings are similar but different who knows I'm a point , push oh damn they aren't in focus sort of guy.

Cap'n - I like taking ground shots too, so I would lower the triopd to meet that requirement I think , butthe that's tricky to do with a mini one I guess. 

OT -  I will do that I think all line up shots are much better, I think I will stop trying to do those crowd of mini shots.

Close one in painting, so the choice of miniatures made the difference and I think these Zeppelin troopen are the best idea (and almost the best scuplts too) Bob Murch had for Pulp, so they got my vote.
