Beautiful work....remind me how you do your slightly melted snow...I really like the consistency....thinking of varying mine a bit more.

Those terrain pieces are so full of character....on the one hand they look pretty tranquil, but equally you could imagine some evil ritual having been carried out in them.

 :)

Thanks mate! It used to be a straight 50/50 mix of PVA glue + Model Mates snow. I'm currently using Lukes APS snow, which actually needs a bit of white paint added to the mix so it's got a different consistency. I was thinking of doing a snow base tutorial at some point if of interest. I'm also experimenting 'dusting' with white spray paint on my trees, as you can probably see above, just to give a bit of variation in texture.

Great looking bases - the snow is particularly effective.

Thanks a lot! :)

Oh, that's a pretty great camera! You can do pretty much anything with it!

yeah - I'm still learning how to use it but pretty impressed so far :)

Nice and detailed pieces, desatured in the grimdark fashion and blended in with the world rather than clearly looking like brightly painted pieces. The snow in general adds such good contrast to all the dreary darkness, I suppose there is good reason snow bases are popular! I expect your board will look excellent.

Thanks mate - really appreciate the kind words. I really like the desaturated, 'realistic' style, although not taking anything away from brighter schemes, this is just my preference. I guess that makes 2 of us, ha.

Interesting, as I understand the Sony has a complicated menu,I bought a Fuji a couple of years ago which is very similar, though for miniatures I use my Canon DSLR. Like to hear ho y go ith it.
Your difficult ground is excellent  :-*

thanks a lot! :)

Love those standing stones and difficult terrain!

cheers!

Thank you for the recipe as it is always nice to have another option.  If you want to do realistic slushy snow try adding 50/50 gloss medium to snow flock.  It lays down thick and glossy like it is melting but dries hard after a couple of days.

For the rest, loving everything that you have done here.  The subdued palette, dingy muddy clothing and dark tones really work well on your conversions.  Very realistic.

Great idea! Thanks, I'll be sure to experiment with that as I'm doing a lot of 'refurbishment' on my terrain at the minute.

I've put together a quick tutorial on shields and weathering for my Black Order force. I'm not a world class painter, but enough people asked specifically about the weathering and masking on my shields I thought it might be useful to do an Idiot's Guide to both.

It's the first tutorial I've ever really put together, so feel free to criticise or ask for clarification as necessary. There are dozens of better tutorials out there on more advanced techniques, so this is meant more as an entry level 'how-to'. Nevertheless, hope it's useful!

Thanks for posting the tutorial! It's clear and easy to follow, so definitely a good job for a first tutorial too!

Great tutorial. Never thought of using tape for neat lines, even though my mate uses it all the time for his scale model kits. This remains one of the best threads on the forum!  :D

Cheers all, much obliged - hope it is of use to some :) Might do one on snow effects later on down the line when I find a method I'm happier with.

What with learning how to use the new camera, plenty of reasons to mess around with my toys and take staged pics...

Broke out the old GB Vikings for a sojourn in the woods turned very sour. Turns out draugar are not understanding when it comes to trespassing...if only Olaf et al had had the foresight to flee across  the river eh?

Great scene. Makes me really want to build some of my Oathmark skellies.
