Most impressive. Who makes the yak?

That'd be Shieldwolf Miniatures. I think it's listed rather appropriately as a "battle yak" on their webstore.

Really been behind on updating this log. Much has been happening, just not had the time to sit and write an update...

I'm inching toward the start of a Kings of War: Vanguard campaign here in Prague, which I will be GM'ing (and the Black Order participating, although not aggressively) and thus have been doing a lot of scenery building and painting. Also been playing around with some NPCs, because I am very curious about getting into other systems - outside of my regular KoW, SAGA and KoW: Vanguard, I'd like to try Mordheim, Rangers of Shadow Deep and maybe Frostgrave. Anyone have any thoughts to share on that front?

In the meantime, the baggage train has long since been completed, but as I don't have pics at the moment let me share with you some NPCs I've been painting up - the population of Yursgrad, humble farmers, craftsmen and goodwives all of whom fall under the Black Order's domain.

And, though the rest of Yursgrad or its surrounding villages isn't quite ready to show yet, here's some scatter terrain that will doubtless be protecting the above villagers from the encroaching Dark during games:

:) Til next time!

Lovely!

Thanks!

Something a little different to the Black Order project - I recently dug out a box of old Vikings I painted about 7 years ago and touched them up. You can still see they're not perfect, but they're good enough to game with for SAGA, Vanguard or anything else really. They'll be fleshed out as a (fantasy) force in the world of the Black Order in due course, but for now, enjoy the sons of Odin in all their glory...

Introducing the Black Order's professional soldiery - the Chapterhouse Guard, commoners and yeomen raised to the Order's ranks, and retained as professional warriors, defending the Order's chapterhouses and forming the core of its battleline.

Cheers chaps. Working through them slowly. In the meantime, I've been working on something else entirely... :)

Work-in-progress! Will be my first time using water effects. It's going to be a 3x3 board for Kings of War: Vanguard and SAGA. I'm quite excited for how this turns out :)

Sharing some pics from a game about a week ago - got a friend usually interested in SAGA and historicals to try out Kings of War: Vanguard. Went really well. The Black Order's supply train for the northern campaigns passed through a small western hamlet to take on additional supplies; little did they know a Kingdoms of Men warband lay in wait to ambush the caravan.

The pictures tell the rest of the tale...

(Helga the baggage yak was greatly harmed in the making of this batrep)

Deployment. The Black Order rush to defend the caravan as the horns blow...

Footmen in the employ of a local robber baron emerge from the town houses.

Footpads on the caravan's right flank emerge - the Order's archers nock arrows in readiness.

First contact. Two yeomen of the Order rain arrows on the bandits on the right flank, killing one.

The great yak at the front of the caravan is slain by a mounted knight moving faster than lightning. Knight-Warden Tostig is caught unawares as the caravan takes its first casualty.

Several moments later, the Order has turned the tide. Although Tostig was wounded grievously, his brother knights-warden and the looming shape of the ettin Magnir arrive to save the rest of the caravan. Knight-Captain Tyr rides up on the left flank, his runic blade carving lightning out of the air as it slices through bandit footmen.

The aftermath. The robber-baron and his forces are killed to a man, with the ettin Magnir howling in atavistic fury as he rips men apart limb from limb. The hedge witch Gunnlaugr emerges from the rear of the baggage train to heal the wounded; most will live to fight again in the Black Order's march North.

Cheers mate. I realise the pics are a little blurry. Working on that.

With the completion of the first 18" square for my gameboard, I've been inspired to try out some Breazer-esque shots, and thought I'd share the first one here.
