Yes its a squared off dome not a hemisphere ;)  problem will be ti make it look right without being too fragile
Do you know anyone with a vacuum mould?

Not locally.  What are you thinking?

Remember there is no covering. All the glass has gone so it's just a frame

My thought would be to vac mould the dome and then apply the ribs on the outside.

That would be fine  (ignoring the actual making the master and getting the moulding done), except that from your reference photographs, oddly enough it is a bit short on glass.

Specialist photo-etch on Stainless steel/phosphor bronze would be expensive and fiddly.

As you can see from that pic I've taken a few liberties with the dome position and design.  I might remake it as the first go is a bit crude.  Its also significantly compressed front to back.

Can your laser cutter cut plastic (Rowmark?).

This lot do some quite fine work with it https://www.yorkmodelrail.com/index.php?route=common/home

Yes but its not as clean a cut as mdf and always tends to leave a burr

Tempted to seek out one of those shows just to see it in the flesh (so to speak).

What's the form on posting links to other forum?  Specifically I am thinking of a chap on RMWeb who is recreating Manchester Central, principally out of plasticard.

As well as being incredible modelling it may give you some ideas for the dome steelwork.

That is bloody amazing!  :o

Problem is Ive not found any detailed drawings online and I'm using a variety of photos sketches and guesswork!  I'm pretty sure that I'll redo the dome...

Maybe it makes sense to solder frame made of copper wire?

I was considering that but its hard work.  I've done similar before.  I'm going to have a ponder see if i can make the MDF version work

I do not think it is an issue unless it falls foul of taste and legislation rules  (moderators will intervene if required) .

There are a number of model railway projects that might be an inspiration, Bath Green Park is another.
