No stress ;) hope you had success, it’s hard to get at the moment. And hope your daughter gets well soon.

Right now she’s sleeping and fine, but that’s only due to a double dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen…I’m slightly afraid of the night and tomorrow. Will post updates asap.

Here and there, usually in the middle of the night, I was able to steal myself away for a couple of minutes. This is the result:
I found two excellent barbarian models from Rackham and David at Bronze Age Miniatures and decided they might make good chaos ogres or giants.

The Rackham sculpt is called a drune and slightly inspired by 2000AD, it’s pretty imposing in 15mm and looks just right of of Corum. He might live on as a Foi Mhyore. Rackham quality and a joy to paint.

The other mini is even more interesting; I simply love the dynamic pose, but it’s the crouched position and the look facing slightly down that makes it a perfect 15mm model. The more I look at the  pose the better I like him. Why should larger humanoid monsters always be clumsy and inflexible?
Right now I see that tje sword will require some reworking.

The giants look tremendous - especially the stooping guy! As you say, that pose is just perfect for using the figure in 15mm.

Very much appreciated, LouieN!

Thank you, Peter. Chaos Ogres as giants sound like a cool plan! Looking forward to your choice and paintjob.

Thanks, Justin! It’s a pretty cool model anyway. If Bronze Age models would not sit in the US with horrible postage rates, I regularly order there. They also have nice „dwarf trolls“ among others.

That barbarian has been sitting around for years. It’s sad but true, but my time of painting 28mm barbarians was in school with Mark Copplestone and Fantasy Warriors.

Recently I scrounged through my lead pile with my daughter -she loves daddy’s toys - and my daughter played around with it and some Demonworld models.  Then it dawned upon me, that the crooked pose could not only mean he was dodging a blow but also that he was bending down to attack!

Today I did some finish on both and am very happy!

Now I’m sick, too. We’re heading towards a very coughing Christmas…
Anyway I found some time to finish a plague ogre magician in Hobgoblin’s tried and tested quickpaint method.

It’s an old Nick Lund sculpt and actually quite good. I can also see myself using the model in larger scales as an orc or goblin.

I normally don’t post WiP shots, but this not-Balrog produced by Khurasan and sculpted by Tom Meier is just too good and I cant wait till it is finished!

I have a huge amount of respect and it lay around for some time before I dared to start. I think, the wings need to be darker and the fire (=burning whip) needs some more touches.

Your wish is my command! Here is another WiP:
I aimed to work on the whip to give the impression of flames, worked on the axe-blade to have it look like it’s glowing, did more constrasts on the body and darkened the wings.

My new best friend: contrast medium. Pricy, but mix it with any of GW‘s contrast paints and you can shift the transparency without changing the other effects. If played around a little.

So first another couple of WiPs.

The ranks of the orcs had opened, and they crowded away, as if they themselves were afraid. Something was coming up behind them. What it was could not be seen: it was like a great shadow, in the middle of which was a dark form, of man-shape maybe, yet greater; and a power and terror seemed to be in it and to go before it. It came to the edge of the fire and the light faded as if a cloud had bent over it. Then with a rush it leaped across the fissure. The flames roared up to greet it, and wreathed about it; and a black smoke swirled in the air. Its streaming mane kindled, and blazed behind it. In its right hand was a blade like a stabbing tongue of fire; in its left it held a whip of many thongs.

That’s a very cool figure and I love how you painted it. I’ll echo what you said about the contrast medium, it is very useful stuff. I find it very helpful when working with the darker contrast paints - it produces much subtler gradients.

 :D I didn’t know I had such power.

Love the result, ready to tear some dwarfs apart.

Great work on both of those! That hobgoblin shaman is one of my favourite miniatures of all time.
