Your style, imagination and execution is incredible, loving this thread. How did you do the dwarf helms/masks? They're especially striking.

I sculpted them from greenstuff and milliput:

This is the blog post where I cover that warband: LINK.

I hosted a game the other day. We had time afterwards to take photos of recreations of key scenes from the skirmish, so I made a writeup in my usual manner. You can read the full account here: CLXXV. The Hag's Hovel Carnage. And here are some of the pictures:

The Damned Mercenary Company, my opponent Vladimir's warband:

Janos the Cannibal of Folda and his witch-hunting ghouls:

Brilliant stuff! The cannibal knight is superb - both the model and the fiction!

Excellent blog, one that I look at often for inspiration. The modelling and painting are excellent.

How did you find the age of sigmar skirmish rules? Did you use the official ones or the Hinterlands fan made ones? Also which books if any?

Thanks folks!

We didn't use a points system when choosing warbands. I simply took warscrolls for Crypt Haunter Courtier and Crypt Ghouls from the FEC book and Dire Wolf warscroll from the GW site. Vladimir, who is more familiar with the rules, made up warscrolls for his warband on the spot.

As for the AoS system on the whole, I cannot say I'm impressed. What's good about it is that it's easy to pick up and just roll dice, even with someone who has never played it before.
I find the Malifaux rules system, which I adapted and used for the mini campaign in my non-Warhammer setting, tons better for this kind of gaming. However, it takes more time to get to know the rules, and therefore it's more work in advance for whoever I want to play with...

Hmm seems like my hunt for suitable fantasy skirmish rules continues! I must admit that I picked up the age of sigmar rulebook and the skirmish rules out of curiosity and also found the Hinterlands pdf online which funnily enough predates the skirmish rules yet seems almost exactly the same but with a better campaign system and was free! I was hoping that with my read through that there was something more to the system that I was just missing.

Having never played malifax or seen it played I have no opinion of it, I just assumed that it seemed a more competitive game.

I believe that GW hired the guy who did the Hinterlands to work on their skirmish rules, due to its popularity.
