First one seems very nice and well painted. But the picture is too busy for me to really give a good judgement. All the colours really make it appear very life-like, but also too busy and hard to distinguise everything.

With Asterix & Obelix you can't go wrong I guess :) Brilliant. Nice comic. The colours are very much in accordance with the comic.

Both very well doen. Win goes to the Romans.

In the first picture I was overwhelmed by the sheer brutality and to some extent realism of the picture (awesome models too, where are they from?). Then I saw the comic, which is like the direct opposite of the first piccie (cartoony, clean and friendly). The cartoon nearly won me over But when I went back to the first picture I realised I was into wargaming for the violence and bloodshed and not for shaking hands (of course figuralively speaking). So the first entry won for me, though the picture could've been less dark.

The first picture is very scary and very realistic. Love the painting on the skin.
I don't want to go anywhere near that bridge.
Second one is very nice too, lovely figures, great painting and very good photos.
But I am afraid the first one gets my vote. It sends shivers down my back even when I look at it through my fingers. I may need to go and hide behind the couch before I look at it again.
Where is the scared icon? ???

...where are they from?...

Spanish company GameZone. I don't do much fantasy these days but this sat was so outrageous (as many of their other minis) I could not resist it. Really put a new meaning to the phrase "flogging a dead horse".

Yes, not very proud of that. That's what I get trying to do photography with a one-and-a-half-year old twisting around my ankles.

If the first picture was clearer it probably would have won me over, but I could just see to little...

The Romans made me smile which was also worth something and I went for them

Hammers, I really like those fantastic GameZone sculpts and your "action painting"-style which gives the pic some real dramatic flavour, but those roman legionaires and their fabulous humoristic presentation decided my voting instantaneously!  :-* :D

Apart from the fact that they are Metal Magic miniatures, and I can't resist Josef Ochmann's charming minis from our former employer's company ...  8)

The great thing about this particular match-up is that both entrants achieved things which are normally very difficult and not obvious :o

In Hammers' case, it is hard to make 25/28mm miniatures look truly frightening and I think he achieved that effect admirably with the gritty realism of his style. The picture s a bit underlit, but that also contributes significantly to the mood.

In Greg's case, it is surprisingly hard to translate cartoon characters to three dimensions (they almost always look "wrong", somehow) but the Romans knock it out of the park in terms of harkening back to their source material, but still working as three-dimensional miniatures. The color choices and the use of the Comic Life framework were inspired.

My hat is off to both entrants in this match-up :-* :-* :-*

Humour and originality are, from my point of view, the keys of victory.

Up for the Romans.

But i also agree with the fact that a good photograph is a decisive asset.

They came from under the bridge are absolutely gruesome looking...great shading and effects...they are just downright nasty.

The Romans are hilarious...where are these figures from. The cartoon display was very funny.

Good luck to you both...they are both exceptional.

romans are from an old range called Metal magic (I don t know if they re still available, I doubt it). I bought them when I was a student, in 1992-1994 and forget them until the League came in and someone asked for more color in a comment about my round 2. So I finally painted them 15-17 years after I bought them !
