Tufts this tall?

Has anyone else seen grass tufts this tall before? I'm not sure if it's a manufactured product or custom made.

That could be home made, but Green Stuff World makes 12mm tufts (link) as do Gamers Grass (link). It could be a cut down tuft from either of those two companies.

Cod, I get all my 12mm XL Jungle Tufts from Green Stuff World. They're nowhere near as tall as these. That's what got me thinking they might be custom made.

I've made them that tall, and all sorts of heights, by untwirling twine, cutting it to the desired length, and then gluing it right in place with pva.

This is definitely some natural material, not the nylon fibres used in manufactured grass tufts. There are irregular curves, a trace of branching and tiny particles on the individual strands. Probably whoever's done this base has collected the material himself, or just maybe bought it from someone who has collected the material and sold it for this kind of purpose. It looks good anway!

I've bought grass before (non-tufted) that was about 5cm long, you then just cut it down to the size you want and glue it down. Called Field Grass, Medium green. I think by woodland scenics but half the cover has come off.

Noch has a pack of tall grass fibers in three colors for making reed.

You can use sisal string, just untwist it, cut to length, glue to base and when dry you can cut to varied lengths.

I made a few of these high tufts from old and shoddy brushes I didn't need anymore by using a few hairs of the brush stuck into a ball of greenstuff and then fixed on the base. Works fine!

I think it looks like fibre optic cable that has been burnt at the tips

Actually looks kind of like some of the "tall grass" bits that I've been using with my Anhurians...grabbed a couple of the extremely cheap paint brushes with the right color bristles from the hardware stores paint section, cut chunks off and superglue it to the base using a gel superglue, then use normal or thin superglue around the base of it and sprinkle around it with some fine flock...though that seems to use some static grass rather than the flock.

Looks like the woodland scenics pack of grass I bought a few decades ago. It comes in small packages but I doubt I will ever finish mine.

One of the model railway companies produces 20mm reeds it could be from them.

There are packs of 2-3" long reeds and fluffy stuff.  You have to cut to size and glue them into tufts yourself.  They work nicely once you get the hang of it.

I still have a pack of grass lying around, I believe it's from Noch, intended for creating long reeds and the like, and it's about 10cm long, in a tan colour.

Pretty thin, and can actually work as grass (it's the same stuff used as static grass, but much, much longer).

This was my first impression too, but then off a broom made from natural fibres (possibly coconut?). I've seen those used to great effect in this capacity...
