I hear you Hammers. When I made the Inn I wiped that with superglue then tidied up with GS but that’s just not practical (or probably safe) for a piece this size. I guess we shall see how it develops
Anyways, at risk of spamming my own thread, another update this time with the arch actually constructed.
Any students of architecture or stone masonry should look away as there are flaws in my block laying. Yep, some just might fall out if it weren’t for the glue. All I can say is... finessing to come.
It’s a useful moment to celebrate something from Essex: Hedingham Castle has, I believe, the widest Norman arch in England.
Mine is purposefully less precise - it is abandoned and decrepit.
At this point it’s also worth me mentioning that I’ve clearly drifted away from the plan, what with having now added a roofline above the main arch.
The red marks show where walls will be built up with the black mark being an elevated archway. The other side of that, as indicated by the green arrow, will be external stairs set against the front wall of the courtyard.
