When I left you last time, the kitchen table was host to all manner of shenanigans; the Auxiliary Police had escaped by car and truck carrying a top secret “Anti-gravity gyroscope” and the Württemberg Rocket Troops were in hot pursuit in, amongst other things, a steam powered tank.

The chase has become a stand-off at the edge of the garrison with the Tank and one of the cars blocking the exit. The Auxiliaries, being British, have formed a queue.

Much shooting takes place, pretty much all of it ineffective, in true Pulp style. Then Lt. Gunning of the Auxiliaries decides on a death-or-glory charge for the one gap he can see. So much for German efficiency; they couldn't even coordinate a barricade.

Captain Bonlanden sees the car aiming for the gap and reverses his own damaged vehicle to block the gap. There is a loud crunch and Rocket troops converge on the now stuck police car (Yes it’s a police car. I know it’s yellow and has Cyrillic letters, but it’s a police car; I’ll repaint it soon, really) firing as they do.

Once again this results in a lot of noise but very little else. The only “hit” is Colonel Lawrence, the theoretical leader of the Auxiliaries, but classified as a "follower" under the rules. It’s a local rule that the Colonel would never stay around long enough to be seriously injured, so when the die rolls show him as “out” he’s considered to have run away. Again. Usually this happens very early in a game; he did well this week.

Unfortunately reversing to block Lt. Gunning leaves another gap and the remaining Auxiliaries race towards it in their stolen truck. Sgt. Harthausen is unable to move the lumbering tank fast enough to block the exit. As he’s on the driving controls there’s also no-one to man the machine gun so they get away.

As the Rocket Troops converge, Lt. Gunning leaps out of the car with the anti-gravity gyroscope ready for a heroic last stand. He attempts to kick down the door to a building but fails. He surrounded on all sides but fights on until he is finally overcome.

On this occasion the Rocket troops win (just, it was the last move of the last turn) and the anti-gravity gyroscope is returned to its owners, but this won’t be be last we see of the nefarious Auxiliaries… Find out what they get up to in the next thrilling episode… et c.

I’ll try and get some model making done before playing any more games though; apart from anything else, that 'police car" really needs disguising...

Well, well, well.  Quite the finish!  Well done, unless you're a fan of the auxiliaries that is.... :D

How many Rocket Troops did Lt. Gunning take with him?

I can't remember exactly, but I think a couple of the Rocket Troops were down to one die at least, and possibly the Leader was down to D6. Being on the roof saved him with a cover roll; it was really at the point where one die roll could have ended up with the Auxiliaries escaping again.

The Auxiliaries would be more formidable if they worked as a team instead of abandoning members when the going got tough, but with Col. Lawrence setting the standard that's unlikely to change.

I decided that the cars I'm using for Pulp games are a bit to shiny to fit the general picture. In particular the police car was rather too bright and shiny:

After some dismantling...

...and painting...

It now looks a bit more like the rest of the rather tatty scenery...

It almost looks like a British police car. If you squint a bit, and ignore the fact the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the vehicle...

That looks great!  The steering wheel just means it's an import.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. I've got a couple more projects on slow boil at the moment, and I'd really like to find time for a game at some point...

Good idea; it's supposed to be on Ascension island so they'd import from the nearest exporting country. That sounds good.

Just don't mention that it's from the USSR...

Hmm. Perhaps Russian aid to an unmentioned African nation sold to the highest bidder?

I like that.

Unfortunately it doesn't explain several other vehicles from the USSR that will shortly turn up on "Ascension". although those will be a bit more heavily disguised. I'll post those soon.

I’m getting a bit addicted to making Pulp models. This is partly because Elder Son and I have found it a great way to spend time together, which is a motivator, but also because tabletop games are more cartoonish than model railways, which allows me to dial down my usual perfectionism and just make stuff.

For various rather contrived reasons our version of Ascension Island is a mid-Atlantic hub for trade and travel. Companies from South America and Europe are throwing up warehouses as fast as possible, (as well as hotels and casinos for the wealthy tourists, but that’s for later).

Further construction...

A few months back I made a “power station” using printed paper for all the textures. This worked reasonably well, but this time I decided to try painting the main building and using printed photos for the windows and doors.

With hindsight, doing this on a relatively large building with planked walls was possibly not the most practical way to test this idea, but there we are. The walls are now finished and painted, and in my usual manner repainted, then repainted again, then heavily weathered and dry brushed until I’m satisfied.

Also. a roof:
