Wonderful. The Ascension project keeps my cockles nicely warmed - I’m always eager to see what the latest is. Terrific setting and terrific modelling. Long May it continue.

Interesting 'race' report.  And i like that latest truck.  Looks like an armed and armored motor home (as we call them here in the States)...

Readers of an earlier post will remember that the first of “the races” on Ascension were won by the “Ascension Revolutionary Socialist Party” in their van/propaganda vehicle/meeting room, while broadcasting about the inevitable collapse of Capitalism through their loudspeakers.

This time, the Powers That Be had prepared. As Stringer McFrase reports in the “Independent Racing Magazine”:

The Communists were most dismayed to see a new rival at the starting line in the form of the “Syndicate”, driving in a converted, and one has to say, heavily armed van. It was clear to all that this would be an eventful race”.

Will "The Syndicate" be able to hamper the Socialists' attempts to use The Races as a tool for propaganda?

As before, all the twists and turns...

The thrills and spills, up to the nail biting finish, can be found here:

Just a setback for the Ascension Revolutionary Socialist Party until "the inevitable collapse of Capitalism".  :D

I thought I'd replied to this, Doug. Thank you for your kind words; it's encouraging to know other people are enjoying this.

Interesting 'race' report.  And i like that latest truck.  Looks like an armed and armored motor home (as we call them here in the States)...

Thanks. I't been described as an "armoured caravan" by a friend from the UK as well...

Oh the doo dah day.

Quite. At least the status quo has been restored... for now.

There's still all manner of corruption, grinding poverty, vice, political violence and the gang warfare that the Auxiliaries have of course now made worse by financing the 40 Elephants, but hey, at least the lower orders won't be getting any ideas...

Just a setback for the Ascension Revolutionary Socialist Party until "the inevitable collapse of Capitalism".  :D

Indeed. Although how they're going to pay for their truck to be repaired is another matter...

Fantastic work 👍 Can I ask what you used to strip the paint off the cars. I have a load of those cars and vans that have sat idle for years 👍

That last race was indeed, eventful, as the press predicted.

And I just realized the acronym for the socialists is the ARS Party.... :D

After our brief sporting interlude, the Ascension chronicles return to diplomacy and geopolitics. In the previous story, the Royal Navy Air Service Police had managed to contact and rescue the missing diplomat, but so far failed to get her on a plane off the island. Now they were attempting to take her to a different part of the airfield in the hope of evading the Auxiliary Police…

Unfortunately, this failed from the outset because the Auxiliaries were already watching the aerodrome. ‘Commandant’ Allen was lurking in the control tower, sabotaging some equipment like the ratio or the runway lights, or something.

The limousine carrying the Ambassador races to the airport, the escorting police car turns off down a side road…

And is followed by the Auxiliaries in their shiny new van…

This van then becomes considerably less shiny, because I pull the 'held in place' card, meaning Col. Lawrence can't steer.

Result: wham.

Lt. Gunning sees his commanding officer drive the van into a warehouse, again, sighs, and gets back to sabotaging the fuel point…

Meanwhile the RNAS Police are racing with the Ambassador towards the plane. Captain Bryant sees “Matron Fox” of the Auxiliaries trying to threaten the pilot…

…and a classic Pulp firefight begins; much shooting at practically point-blank range yet almost entirely ineffective…

Meanwhile, Sgt Williams had dealt with ‘Commandant’ Allen and after some false starts he manages to get the as yet unnamed technical item to work, so the plane can take off. Things seem to be going in the RMAS Police’s favour…

Meanwhile, in the control tower, Sgt Williams had dealt with ‘Commandant’ Allen and after some false starts he manages to get the as yet unnamed technical item to work, so the plane can take off. Things seem to be going in the RMAS Police’s favour…

But to everyone’s frank astonishment, Col. Lawrence actually manages to do something useful. Having got the Auxiliaries van to start again, he brings it up behind the Limousine, blocking both the car and plane and injuring Captain Bryant. Meanwhile, Lt. Gunning and Matron Fox are trying to get into the car to abduct the Ambassador.

Seeing the danger, Bryant shouts at Lt. Cain to drive the Ambassador away. Cain doesn’t need telling twice…

… And races off, with col. Lawrence in hot pursuit.

Will the Auxiliaries catch up and capture the Ambassador? Will the RNAS police ever get her off the Island, or at least before her home government declares war?

Find out in the next thrilling instalment… et c; et c…

Great looking game! The ambassador is probably ready to call it quits, at this point...  lol

Neither did she, I expect.

Thanks. I suspect the Ambassador is ready to retire and do something safer, like alligator riding. Her home government is on the case though and they're arrancing a more direct rescue...

Does the Island not have a seaport?  If flying the Ambassador off the island ain't gonna work, could the Ambassador be sailed away?  It is the Royal NAVY Air Service, after all.... ;)

Your Ambassador is having about as much luck as my US Ambassador to Balczakistan had in my "Modern Stuff" thread.  Although the US and the Balczakis did manage to finally rescue him, gunshot wounds and all...

I've just found your Balczakistan thread and I see the point.

The problem with trying to remove the Ambassador by ship is that the Auxiliary police have very powerful leaders; they were started by Prime Minister Oswald Moseley and in another story they've been connected with Lord Mountbatten. As such, they have access to airships which can catch up with any vessel and either stop it or blow it out of the water.

That's my excuse anyway, the real reason, of course, is that I'd have to build a ship, and then a harbour for it to tie up in. I've got both on the "to build" list but I haven't got there yet...

Could always leave on a Sea Plane. :D

I nearly built G-SIAC into a seaplane, but I decided a wheeled undercarriage was more flexible...
