English Civilians around 1800 ?
« on: May 14, 2009, 04:09:21 AM »
Does anybody know where I could find some English Civilians from the Napoleonic Period.
I know about the Foundry Civilians (got the French Revolution ones) , but the English look a little "too Mozart/Roccoco-ish" I find, so maybe a little to early. And the Victorian stuff again is then too late...
I would assume that there must be something available..Jane Austen Period?

Any ideas anyone!?

I like Eureka's stuff, especially their Victprian Dancing Couple:

As well as their various 18th Century Civilians

They look pretty "Jane Austen" to me.

The vignettes certainly do, a bit early perhaps. I adore the fat vicar with a gout inflicted toe.

You might find some by extending your search back to the 1750s.
Lower classes and rural types would not be up to date on fashions anyway, so you could try Front Rank :

Redoubt have American civilians in the French & Indian Wars range :

Outpost have a few highwaymen :

You might find a few suitable figures in AWI ranges or perhaps naval ranges (some crew figures might be ok for artizans and labourers)
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

I think some of Foundry's "Mob" in the French Revolution range would do fine for the lower classes.

you can also try the blue moon manufacturing. they also have some civilians in the duellists packs of the swashbucklers range.
Just now also released a new set:

The also have some amercan colonials of FIW period and some obvioulsy not suitable for you for Victorian era.

I was trying also to locate some civilians for 18th/19th century, so you can see some civilians in various ranges like those from: Tradition of London and Old Glory ranges. Some may fit the lot.

Foundry also has few (I think it's only one pack with ladies and 2 indian servants) in their Indian Mutiny pack. These would be also suitable !

Have you tried Perry, there is a pack in their AWI range, a bit early but a possibility:

AWI clothing would be fine for lower class (and older middle class people) in the countryside. The closer you get to towns and the higher up you get in society, the more likely you are to have at least reasonably current styles (waistcoats stopping at the natural waistline, cut-back coats, tall hats with narrow brims).

For countryside folk don't forget the Sleepy Hollow figures in Westwind's Gothic horror range (Old Glory in the US).

Also look at British sailors for the Napoleonoic wars - if you are setting a game in London or near the sea there could be sailors nearby on a 'run ashore' (in best shore rig clothing and armed with good stout canes).
