Battle of Tanagra, 457 BC - TtS vs CCA
« on: March 14, 2022, 07:10:49 AM »
Gents,

I ran two games of the battle of Tanagra using Commands & Colors but in a miniatures game setting and the same battle but using the C&C  boardgame and fought using To the Strongest!…I do live down under so some things are upside down in the Antipodes!  o_o

Anyway, here is the CCA game of Tanagra

…and here is the same battle played with To the Strongest.

Both should (hopefully) prove interesting reading/viewing.

Oh, I have abandoned Wordpress and gone (back) to blogger, hence the post in two different locations.

…going forward with blogger from now on.

Cheers

Hmmm, I think this battle needed more Hoplites.

I preferred looking at the Command and Colors game using minis than the To The Strongest game using blocks, but since I am on a miniature wargaming website I am biased!   lol

Good analysis thought, and I am happy to hear about the Hex grid working as well as a square grid.  I find Hex Grid mats to game on easier to find than square.

Yes,

Minis are better. The boardgame was a ‘test’ to see if it all worked…and it did! There was nice pic of some Thessalian horse right at the end 😜😜

Cheers

Happy Wanderer. nice write up. TTS are my "go-to" set of rules so good to see they worked for you. Some of my mates are big fans of  Command and Colours  so I may have to give them a go. I might even be finally inspired to invest in Command and Colours "Medieval"!

Thanks

C&C Medieval is an excellent rendition of CCA. In fact I use the "Inspired Leadership Actions" repurposed for Hoplite Warfare with that 'Hoplomachia' feel  :D

Works a treat.

I also just finished a Justinian campaign (GMT's GBOH - Justinian) using CCM playing out the battles. I worked up an interface that made for an excellent boardgame game to miniatures game conversion...it worked very well.

..in a hotly contested campaign Justinian and his generals Belisarius and Narses got the job done...just!...on the last battle of the last campaign move...epic!

I'd recommend CCM...cavalry heavy focus with armour differences that have a nice historical feel to them.

File attached FYI  ;)
