Very nice indeed, I love your use of Warzone fiigs and the Dark Eldar, very convincing and alien/pulpy like.
Thanks! The 80's Flash Gordon/KISS look was one of the things that drew me to the Dark Eldar way back when they were released. Very OTT and very pulp alright.
That Warzone figure that I used as Stig just cries out "bombastic pulp square jawed hero type" to me. I bought him specifically with this project in mind a year or two ago.
I'm not too fond of the dipped look...
Totally understandable. I painted/converted to a reasonably high standard for a very long time (I had an army show up in White Dwarf in 2001) but my painting speed is very slow. After playing clix games for a while I decided that the paint jobs on those figures, while not brilliant were still good enough to enjoy the game. With that in mind I have tried to cut as many corners as possible in my painting, which has increased my turnover a lot. The figures are still plenty good enough to play games with as far as I am concerned and actually getting projects
finished gives me a lot of satisfaction. The dip contributes a lot to that so it is worth it to me. YMMV
but I think a matte varnish could help
I have hand painted matt varnish on to a few dipped figures and it really does help. It is a bit time consuming though. Currently I am deciding whether to matt varnish each figure on a case by case basis
I have had one too many disastrous experiences with spray matt varnish to use that again. I think that the dampness in the Irish climate really isnt suited to it.
really nice, I love your blues
Thanks! I bought a bottle of Game Color Magic Blue about a year ago. I think it is my favorite blue miniature paint in my 20+ years of painting. A lot of blues have either a lot of white or (much worse) enough red to have an inky purple tinge. The Game Color Magic Blue doesnt have any of that
Anyway, the blue is simply the above blue with a light whiteish blue (old GW Enchanted or Horizon blue or similar) drybrush.
COMPLIMENTS
Thanks for all of the other kind words. That Sarah Kingdom figure looks sweet. I must get around to picking one of those up when I eventually get my Davros.
