Here's my Mordheim Norse Dwarf warband and their Hired Swords.  I plan to do a group shot later.

Great terrain you get to game on and lovely figures you've got there.

I want to share some of the tables that were played on during this last week's campaign play. The first is my buddy's superb terrain, built from housing insulation board. The last two tables are primarily 3D printed terrain.

Those all look amazing! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the buildings constructed from insulation foam, there’s way more detail than I would have thought practical.

The window frames, barrels, and many of the decorative elements are 3D printed or scrounged plastic and resin pieces. The scatter terrain is also made from wood and plastic elements. The houses themselves are mostly insulation board.

Even with the finer details in other materials, that’s some very impressive foam work. The finished pieces are quite brilliant!

Great looking terrain, especially the foam house. It’s very impressive.

Last night I played a great game against a Beastmen Raiders warband. Even though the disparity between the warbands' warband rating awarded my Dwarves an 'underdog bonus,' the Norse Dwarves triumphed against the foul Children of Chaos.

Only 3 Dwarves went OOA, but two were killed (a Clansman and Crossbowman). Five of the six Beastemen heroes and a half a dozen henchmen went OOA, but the Raiders only permanent casualties were two henchmen, a Chaos Hound and a Gor.

BTW, in the photo, the tops of buildings were removed because we had models in those buildings.

My MVPs were a Longbeard Henchman who took 3 Beastmen OOA in melee and my Warlock hired sword took out 2 Beastmen heroes OOA (a Shaman and a Gor Hero) with his Silver Arrows spell.  I was also quite proud of my Halfling Scout who, armed with a dagger, survived multiple rounds of melee with a Chaos Hound. If my opponent hadn't routed, the Halfling might have finished off the hound, who would have been knocked down during the next melee phase.

As the Mousillon Campaign wraps up, I've been helping folks get in their last few games using ringer warbands. One such fellow had played 7 of his 8 games, so I arranged what was initially planned to be a 3-way game, Possessed (7 games), vs Clan Pestilens (1 game) vs my Pirates (1 game). I even went as far to create a fun graphic to share on Discord server where we hang out.

The day of the event, a fourth player (Brad) asked to join the fight with his Restless Dead (3 games), so of course we said yes and I had to update my graphic.

To make things even more interesting, we used the rules for Random Happenings; but rather than restricting the ourselves to one 'Random Happening' per game, we set  the limit to one 'Random Happening' per player. When this didn't produce any Random Happenings, we increased the likeliness of event from a 1 in 6 chance to a 2 in 6 chance and then finally to a 3 in 6 chance, until finally we hit our limit of 4 Random Happenings.  This resulted in both an Ogre and a Pit Fighter joining the fray, as well as a Man-Eating tree and a pack of feral dogs.

Overall, the game was blast. Predictably, the Rats scampered off first, followed by the equally cowardly Pirates. The Possessed and Restless Dead fought it out for a couple of more turns until the Possessed decided that discretion is the better part of valor, and routed, leaving the Restless Dead in control of the battlefield.

Mordheim is not a well designed or balanced game. What it does have going for it is a rich background, nostalgia, and a strong narrative/story telling element. In my not-so-humble-opinion, it's the ultimate "beer and pretzels" tabletop wargame.

For instance, the highlight of the game last night, beyond witnessing a man-eating tree first gulp down an unsuspecting cultist and then itself fall victim to a critical hit delivered by a feral dog (there is a bark/bite joke in there), was the fight between a Possessed and my Pirate Ogre. After being reduced to one wound by the demonic fiend's assault, Grog struck back, critically wounding the foul creature and causing it to go OOA.  Despite being splattered by steaming ichor, twice (i.e., Black Blood) Grog remained on his feet. And if his cowardly Captain hadn't called for the retreat on the Pirate's next turn (i.e. failed rout test), Grog would have finished off the downed the mutant lying knocked down at his feet, and scooped up a second treasure token. Arrrghhhh... ☠️
