Using Google Image to find an original, and Google Translate to read a caption:

Great photos! I need to do some militia for shanghai 1932 and 1937 so this was great inspiration. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for that Gundamentalist. So these fellas were out in the wild west. From the Wiki article, Forman had a penchant for the Chinese Reds, but two men in these photos seem to be wearing KMT field caps. Interesting.
