Zeppelin Build for Pulp games and others
« on: September 08, 2018, 05:57:05 PM »
Zipping along on another terrain board(ish)

I received this some time back and had told myself I would only work on it when the other projects I had going where finished. Well, now it’s time. The Zeppelin itself is from Crossover Miniatures’ Kickstarter, and I cannot say enough nice things about Rusti and his work. At first I was a bit intimidated by the sheer size (and weight) of this project, but the pieces are going together very nicely.

Bow Section first: The flooring was coated in Minwax Polyshades Antique Walnut.

That's a beast! I'm intrigued as to how this will going together, so lots of photos please.  :D

I've had good dealings with Rusti in the past too, he's a gent.

As requested...  ;) Continuing on with the Bow.

The Red and White striped section in the last picture is the first add-on that I did to the build. I realized that there was a small area in front of the bottom flooring where an expansion could go. A piece of the "sprue" from the Zeppelin, and a small bit of adjustment, and there it is. There are so many possibilities with this model.

I painted it with the danger stripes due to some of the storyline from Malifaux where there is a super-weapon hidden in the bow of Captain Zipp's airship.

It’s looking beautiful, I love the walnut decks against the black frame.

Gamer Mac, the total length is supposed to be right around 73".
However, I am getting a second cargo section and due some add-ons, I am looking at right around 94" in length.

Charles: Thank you. That's going to be the prevalent deck color. as well as the color of the tail fins. I am still debating on doing the ends of the fins in a striped pattern, but not sure I want them to visual compete with the Flig (message redacted).

More progress made: a close up of the add on piece, and putting the skin on. It's a bit scary putting on the first piece, but dry fitting is my friend.

Panama: With the extra Cargo Section that rusti is sending me and a modification I am adding, total length will be approximately 94 inches long by 18 inches wide.

Bow is done: The minis are Malifaux with 30mm, 40mm and 50mm bases showing just how much room there is in it. The few furnishings seen are just the start of how it will look when fully kitted out.

The middle picture is a possible answer to what the "secret weapon" is. A word of warning though to those wandering the decks of the airship: Don't blink.

On to the Passenger Section.
I cut loose on this one. A lot of things had to be done prior to assembly: The staterooms had to be laid out with wallpaper, the dinning room/meeting room had to be wallpapered and maps made fit for hanging on the walls. The outsides of the two compartments and the two tops of the rooms were fitted with wood "paneling", that if I had to do now, would be done much differently. 1:48 dollhouse furniture was ordered off of ebay. Again, the flooring sections were done with Minwax Polyshades Walnut (had an issue with one of the walkways, unfortunately).

I decided on railings to go on the compartment roofs, making them a further usable gaming surface that fit in, and then I had the notion to up it another step and make sliding doors for the staterooms. Two pieces of plastic C-channel and the mdf cast offs from the 'sprue" made for usable sliding doors. I used seed-beads as doorknobs, which had the added benefit of not allowing the doors to open too far.

Progress is... progressing, actually. Section skinned, and the Staterooms, Hall and kitchen going in. Each room has it's own Victorian style wallpaper.
