30 Years of War in 15 Millimeters of Pewter
« on: September 14, 2018, 12:39:09 PM »
Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post. Been lurking around for some time and as I have got great amounts of inspiration out of these boards, decided to give something back. I have currently four "major" projects that I'm about to keep track here and on my new blog (http://wewargaming.blogspot.com) of which this is the first that I'm writing bit more about.

So got inspired on 30 years war after reading about it, which eventually led to ordering a bunch of models from Totentanz, then after listening about Finns' adventures at the battlefields of Germany, eventually got into painting the models. So here are the first pikemen for the project:

I have plans on doing enough troops for two forces and keep them vague enough that they fit in different sides. I'll also do some matching terrain for them as this is a new scale for me. Eventually I'll probably do some 28mm skirmish forces for scenarios as well, but they are not the first on the project list.

That is a fantastic first post! Their painting standard would perfectly suit 28mm! Incredibly good work man!

Impressive! I think you’ve really caught the “feel” of the period!

Tremendous. I really like those Totentanz figures - as good as anything in 28mm.

Wow, thanks for the feedback. I had this painting as my reference https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rocroi,_el_%C3%BAltimo_tercio,_por_Augusto_Ferrer-Dalmau.jpg

The models are awesome. I had painted some 15mm Khurasan sci-fi models earlier, but the detail in these was from other world. Can't wait to paint more. I'll probably prepare the next batch today, 4 bases of musketeers, but I'll be busy for two weeks with work trip to Lapland and holiday trip to Tuscany, so you'll have to wait a bit for the next additions. I'll do a starting post for other projects at some point though.

Great minis with great paintjobs :)

With minis like this, why go to 28mm for skirmishes? They look like they'd work fine for Pikemans Lament and similar rules.

Thanks.
What I meant with skirmishes, are the sort of skirmishes where each player has about 10 models on the table, Horse and Musket could be a possible ruleset. Larger skirmishes would work well with these, I agree.

I happen to have a collection of Tabletop world buildings that would be quite nice for this setting as well, so playing in 28mm would be nice as well some times.

Hey, they look so real!
Fantastic sculpts and unbelievably well painted!
Eager to see more of your works! Cheers!

Thanks for your kind words. It keeps the motivation up to paint more stuff. Which I recently did and finished 8 stands of musketeers:

And here with the pikemen:

Now with the infantry done, it's only a matter of painting some cavalry and I actually get to play. I'm very interested on the Task force sized By Fire and Sword, even if it's not exactly historically the right period for these models, but close enough for my taste.

I also wrote some words to my blog about them:
