3mm Hoth Star Wars
« on: September 27, 2018, 02:53:41 PM »
My son and I have always loved Empire Strikes Back.  I wanted to create the feel of the movie without a large budget.  After scanning the GZG website I came across Germy's tiny walkers.

I built the terrain from lego and mechanical bits from Combat Zone.  Calimero helped me paint some of the minis.

That's awesome, and oh so tiny! 8)

How large is the playing area you set out there in the picture? 1'x1.5'?

Good job on the buildings; they certainly look the part, and the paintjobs on the miniatures are pretty sweet too.

Will you be adding infantry too? And things like trenches, or a correctly scaled huge Ion Cannon?

I can certainly see the appeal of this small scale. Please keep it up! :)

+++EDIT+++ corrected my estimation of the playing area from inches to feet; it's small, but not that small. Stupid Imperial system... ::)

Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Sadly no.  If you look closely, there are tiny infantry soldiers milling about the buildings.  They are just too small.  I am hoping to keep the game light and focus on the machines rather than huge strips of infantry.  I did build a shield generator and an Ion cannon a year or so but the scale really put me off.  The scenery is more for cover than anything else.  I imagine each could be used for the base or the communication tower.

Thanks for the kind words!  The board is 10 by 14 inches.

I absolutely love this - ace job! I've considered doing 1/1000 scale ground combat sci-fi (with massive vehicles) and considered getting small strips of clear acrylic, and colour them (so like epic bases but coloured transparent) to represent infantry platoons. It's quite abstract, but then infantry would be at that scale.

Snow terrain is so cool.

Great little set. I agree you should look at infantry, not detailed but simple representative tokens.

Forward March do a 40mm wide 3mm infantry strip in loose  irregular order amongst their 3d print your own figures that would work for this. Not much hassle as they come already based I get mine printed off via 3dHubs.
