after a long absence, I come back with my little cart from the Red River. a vehicle that was used in all the plains of the American West, it was designed for this purpose. no metal parts, no grease anywhere. she was a little jeep of her day, and if you listen carefully, you'll hear her creak

I like it , D , a lovely little model . You,ve got the scale just right . I,m old enough to remember Hand Carts being trundled around the streets. My uncle was a street vendor who sold fruit and vegetables. He used one to transfer stock between his warehouse and the stalls. It was a serious piece of kit with full size , metal rimmed wheels , heavy duty shafts and a flat bed . It had obviously been made in a coach works and was capable of transporting a surprisingly heavy load . People used them to transport furniture and even to move house with them . Your reference to a Jeep is not too far off the mark .

Love what you've created, especially the contents - a beaver hat, beaver plews, and trade blankets are all spied.
I'm sure the cart was more common than we realize but I wonder how it compares to the use of four wheeled conveyances - be they wagons, stage coaches, or the more common mud wagon. I know the Mormons are famous for their two wheeled carts - pushed or pulled by people more often than animals if the 'legends' are to be believed. After that, all I've ever seen reference the four wheelers - except the Mexican carts which were kissing cousins to your model (and that means a big chunk of the US prior to the Mexican American War had those carts). Anyone have reliable stats on the variation between wagons and carts? This wonderfully rendered model has piqued my curiosity.
