Artillery for improvised armoured train in 28mm?
« on: October 03, 2018, 10:04:35 AM »
Hi guys

My Company B armoured train sadly remains un-built at present as I concentrate on painting more of Mr Copplestone's excellent Bolos, Whites, Chinese and British to add to my forces. I will must get around to it soon!

However, that stalwart fellow Rob at Northumbrian Painting Services has in the meantime adapted a pound shop train set for me, creating a very serviceable improvised armoured train which I am very pleased with.  There was also the added bonus that it came with suitable track to run on, so no need just yet to source S-gauge from the US  :)

The set includes two flat cars, shortened from the originals (which I thought were too long) and with sandbags added by Rob.  To these I want to add an impressive looking gun (e.g. ex naval) rather than a field artillery piece.

Does anyone have any tips where I could find a suitable model in 1/48 or 1/56 please, ideally with thoughts on figures to crew it?

Thanks
Sir Rodney

There's the honorable lead boiler suit company, they've got 19th century fortress/coastal guns http://www.hlbs.co.uk/type.php?id=95, don't know if they'd be any use, they have some WWI artillery too, but that's mostly big guns. Other than that I wonder if Foundry have something suitable.

HLBS have some great looking pieces, however, I think they might be a little too big for your purpose. I think field guns will be the more practical option. You can also roll them on and off the train, setting up an improvised artillery postion at a suitable point along the track.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps, which are appreciated although they do not give me quite what I am looking for.

What I am hoping to find is something like this beauty:

https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=7IIAt%2fmQ&id=807A1CB609CDCC220D271A147604125D5FBBE3D9&thid=OIP.7IIAt_mQZ6vE2y6JUOMysAHaE-&mediaurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.wio.ru%2frr%2fww1%2fer.jpg&exph=807&expw=1200&q=white+russian+armoured+train&simid=608001852276411666&selectedIndex=9&ajaxhist=0

Does anyone make something suitable in Copplestone compatible scale?

I don't know how useful it would be, but there is this 1/48 detail kit for a u-boats 8.8cm gun.
https://www.eduard.com/store/eduard/german-submarine-8%2c8cm-gun-1-48.html?cur=1&listtype=search&searchparam=gun and if not that there might be some other similar kits out there.
