Great work! The fur 'barding' on the horses is a really nice touch!

They are excellent, a proper wild looking horde! I have never actually seen or read  GoT but I can well imagine they are an intimidating sight as they thunder into battle whooping and snarling!

Thanks everyone  :)

Funnily enough, the mounted Wildlings unit never made it into the TV series, but I liked the sound of them from the books. Not sure how effective they’d be in a game, but was pleased to add a bit of variety to the Wildling army.

Speaking of which, although I’m back at work today, I managed to finish the two War Mammoths with towers, in my lunch hour. Just about crammed three archers into each.

Super job on those Matt. The dusting of snow really sets the scene amazingly well - nice touch having a line on the rim of the howdah as well...
At least, I'm assuming it's a line of snow ;)

(Maybe that's how you keep up your amazing rate of output! lol)

Thanks both, quite pleased with them especially since they really didn’t taken long compared to some of the other models...easy to build...easy to paint.

 lol

I think my output probably owes more to caffeine than anything else.

Today’s progress consisted of finishing the scratchbuilt Wildling Chariot from the Frozen Shore (as per the books rather than the TV series).

I decided to paint the Vendel timberwolves up as per Siberian White Huskies, to fit in with the description GRRM gave in the books. Just a reminder, the charioteer is Frostgrave, with a Westwind head.

Let me know your thoughts...does it work?

 :)

Agreed! The hybrid driftwood/tusks approach works really well!

Very nice work and a solid interpretation. Those hooded heads from Westwind are just too handy.
I have six plastic WF chariots languishing in a storage box next to my bike. Maybe i should have another look at them.

Cheers all, glad you liked the Chariot...tempted to make another.

I’m approaching 100 Wildlings now, with more in the pipeline....hopefully beginning to look more like a substantial force, rather than just a raiding party.

Painted so far:

3 x 24 foot
1 x 12 mounted
4 x Mammoths (including 2 with a total of 6 crew)
1 x chariot with a crew
1 x giant
3 x leaders

Just a brief update today... a couple more giants for the paint queue.

Bloodrage giants, with GS fur.

The one of the left of the photo is another copy of the one I’ve already painted up, I’ve just changed the position of his arm ... not sure if the photo really shows the pose, but the clenched fist arm is a lot closer to the camera, than the other arm, in case he looked a little lopsided.

The original figure is completely starkers, hence the amount of GS used... I tried to vary the size/shape/direction of the fur, and will probably emphasise a bit more at the painting stage...want to give the impression of various animals having gone into his clothing, rather than a giant “onesie”.

The other giant (with the club) is a bit smaller, actually roughly similar in size to the CMON Savage Giants...partially clothed, so less time intensive with the putty.

My original Wildling force was based upon the Battle of the Bastards, but I took a decision a while back to reset my project effectively to the start of a campaign, widening out the potential types of troops I can field.

 :D
