LOTR Strategy Battle - Story based campaign
« on: December 20, 2018, 12:46:42 PM »
A few weeks ago Nick & I revisited GW's LOTR Strategy Battle Game. I played all the scenarios from the film when they were released 12-15 years ago, but have not played much in last 10 years. The plan is to start with the fellowship of the rings scenarios in the first journey book and run through the whole story with playing the scenario through twice so we both get to play both sides.

Very well done indeed, Chris! Most inspiring terrain and figures, and both scenarios look like a lot of fun. The LOTR SBG was (and is) a great set of rules. Thanks for sharing!

I love seeing LOTR done as a narrative campaign. Nice work

What a cool idea!  I wish I had someone local who was as into the game as I am.  I'd love to do this.   :(

Our most recent game in our LOTR narrative campaign has bee 'Bucklebury Ferry'

This scenario sees four frightened hobbits attempting to make a dash for the ferry, putting some running water between them and their pursuers.

In our two replays, the little fellows did not quiet make it.

Cool.  I like the GW LotR rules.

I love all of the rules except the combat, which is just a bit too simple for its own good.

Great looking reports!

On Monday, Doug and I played the 4th scenario in our Lord of the Rings narrative campaign.

This is based on the Games Workshop Fellowship of the Ring Campaign book. This was a great publication, now sadly out of print that combined scenarios based on events from one of the films with some great painting and modelling articles to help you construct the terrain for the game.

Strictly speaking, the Fog on the Barrow Downs scenario is based on events from the Fellowship of the Ring book rather than the film, as I don't believe that the Barrow Downs and Tom Bombadil ever made it into the movie.

The hobbits had a pretty hard time of it both time we played, as how ever hard they shouted Tom Bombadil just did not seem to be any where to be found!
