Simon Stålenhag's world
Would be cool - I have to think if it can be done with the confines of this contest though!

That man has an extraordinary talent for telling stories through a single pictures. His idea of depicting a future set in the 1970s to 80s Sweden and US is unique.

Finally (some) progress! I got hold of a second-hand Barbie from a fellow wargamer (thanks James) to use as the basis of the deep sleeping robot.

After some time pulling all that hair out (I got a blister by using pliers!) and some chopping up of the limbs, I think I have a good basis for the model.

I cut out the mouth to see what it looks like - the rubber material is softer than I thought, but nothing that a bit of plasticard and Milliput won't give more rigidity. Yes, it looks creepy to me too.

During the week I plan to glue her together, and start adding bits of plastic and card (pistons, battery packs, etc) to transform her. I'll have to buy some Milliput as I haven't used any for years. I think I can make the deadline still.

Ok....this will be cool.  8) I can already see where you're going with this.

Edit:what about using guitar wire and solder for the drooping wires of the robot?

This should be really neat!

Thanks guys. The photo is looking a little too sexual - hoping once it's painted in dark colours/rust and covered in vines it would be so bad. I might have to cut the torso in half to bend the body forward.

Edit:what about using guitar wire and solder for the drooping wires of the robot?

Didn't have any (was just going to use normal wire) and so I went to guitar shops today. Was a little taken back by them being AU$30 for a steel strings for the bass guitar set?

Then I checked eBay - they're AU$5 delivered from Hong Kong. Okay, that seems more reasonable. lol

Also got some replacement Milliput, so I can start to do some sculpting.

Thanks guys - The boobs will also be covered to look more like a breastplate.

Question on the 25% limit - does a Barbie count for any of that limit? Noting that I'm going to cover about 50% with Milliput?

Edit: I also hope I don't go crazy like the guy from Kingdom Death...

No worries. I am sure this will look nothing like a barbie when you are done.

Those perforations in the head are pretty cool. Are you going to make use of them or cover them up?

What about keeping the kinda sexy part of? Why not do either a kinda broken down Metropolis robot or some sort of ruined cyberpunk style robot?

I’ve found these images with a quick search on Coolminiornot.com...

Cool, thanks.

Hammers:
I was going to cover them up, and have a few wires coming out the top and drooping on her back.

Painting-wise I was going to go with black/dark grey and rust, covered with greenery. However, I am thinking of painting her like one of these things:

Andy M:
Giving me ideas. The vegetation aspect could reflect Emily Browning in 2011's 'Sleeping Beauty'... but I think the grubby bright colours is more where I want to go. Peeling skin? That I want to try.

I'm also reminded of J. F. Sebastian's toys in 'Blade Runner' - so I'm going to take some inspiration from there too.
