BSC2019 TaltosVT's AWI Fields
« on: January 09, 2019, 05:47:53 PM »
I see that Silent Invader is already doing some crop fields, but I could use some for my AWI games, so I'll toss my hat in the ring with fields as well. My first thought is a wheat field, a corn field, and a vegetable garden suitable for a homestead in rural New England in the 1770s.

Great! Even more diversity. Just what I was hoping for.

I got a small start on things this morning by beginning the first field.

First step was to create a base using styrene and corrugated cardboard.  For the styrene, I use plastic "For Sale" type signs from our local big box store.  I find them cheaper than buying plastic modeling card online.  To create furrows, I pealed off the top layer of a section of corrugated cardboard, gluing the result to the base.

Once that was dry, I coated the entire thing in a dark mud-colored brown.

While the paint was still wet, the entire base was covered in a mixture of model railway ballast and green flock.

Shaking off the excess, this will be left to dry before continuing on.
