Captain X
« on: June 06, 2009, 08:30:16 PM »
Thorbjørn has talked me into joining the quest for Unobtanium on the Indian subcontinent.

Instead of painting a whole army I'm going for a "villain" based on Captain Nemo and Professor Xavier with a small band of loyal henchmen.

I've finished the first miniatures, that I hope will be the basis for my first attempt at obtaining Unobtanium in a seaside raid.

Old Glory is correct. The quality of the miniatures where better than I expected - but the eyes could be much better sculpted.

Captain X has his secret base on an unknown island in the South China Sea. When I've finished the sailors Captain X will get some chinese from the same series as auxillary forces. I also believe I'll buy som Tong miniatures from Old Glory.

They appear to be some of the better OG sculpts and you've made a very good job of them.
Please post more pics when the Chinese are done!  :D

Very nice!

With their little pom-pom hats the sailors remind me of the henchmen from the old Vincent Price movie Master of the World:

Oh yes!

I remember this from the dim and distant past, although I haven't managed to see it again for years  :( I remember it as being pretty good, but that may have just been youthful enthusiasm for all things SciFi and Fantasy  ;)

You are right about the sailors. Even though they are historical figures, they look perfect for any number of VSF uses. I hadn't thought of using them, but they would be perfect for the dastardly minions of an Evil Overlord  :D

Master of the world...

Haven't seen that movie since I was a boy, and then probably in a german version. Can't even remember if Robur has the same moral complexity that I love about Captain Nemo.

I'm trying to find it on DVD right now, but the closest is a secondhand offer VHS on amazon. Has it even been released on DVD? Leads anyone?

If you wan't to see more of the progress follow the links, (it is in Danish but there are lots of pictures). :)

But is he really an Evil Overlord, or just a Crazed Despot ?

No, I don't think that MASTER OF THE WORLD has ever been released on DVD (shocking, I know... :o). I did an exhaustive search for it a while ago.

I rented the VHS from an obscure/indie/arthouse video store near my house not long ago and it still held up reasonably well, I thought. Apparently many of us remember it fondly from our youth...

Some WIP pictures of Li Peng.

Li Peng is the trusted right hand of Captain X. He will be present on the battlefield to supervise larger operations. Think I'm going for some kind of disgraced eunech as his background story.

The colors are inspired by Tintin. ;)

I have Master of the World on DVD - a friend gave it me for x-mas last year.

Its Spanish I think - "El Amo Del Mundo" and I am pretty sure it came from Amazon

That seems an interesting way of painting, doing just the highlights first and then filling in the shades. Is there any paticular reason you do it this way?
