Question: Are Maelstrom's Edge and Vor the Maelstrom related?

Question:  Are Maelstrom's Edge and Vor the Maelstrom somehow related?

I've searched the Google for pages and pages.   Are these games related?   

The races differ, but Edge could be long after the humans have finally wiped out the weird aliens (space mummies, crystal spirit stone people things, and horned brutish ape monsters).

They both have a disastrous space maelstrom; one sucking in worlds and one expanding and destroying worlds.

I believe it is a coincidence. Different people behind each project, iirc.

No connection that I know of.  The thematic similarities are likely an outgrowth of the fact that universe-wrecking cosmic phenomena are a good fluff excuse for all sorts of weird face-offs between unlikely opponents.  Vor's setting might have been a little better for that, but Maelstrom's Edge is still drawing on the same basic trope.

Maelstroms Edge was created by Dakka Dakka forum when they were getting increasingly frustrated with 7th ed 40k. Vor the Maelstrom was created back in the late 90s by Fasa as a 2nd ed/3rd ed 40k competitior and died when Fasa ran out of cash.
