I think Ged said USMC first. It's quite an undertaking as I think there will be a lot of interest in this. It's also the age old dilemma of ensuring that there's enough 'completeness' to encourage people to buy into the range, but needing to sell figures to support the development of that range.

A solid release plan will definitely help. This is the range that I've always wanted to commission myself (Paul Hicks' sculpts ideally!) so no pressure! 😂

USMC first works for me.

Personally I'd be happy with a few packs to start so that I can slowly build up my forces, I'd rather not wait till I can buy 100 figures in one go as the prospect of painting them all puts me off  :)

To be honest, about 10 to choose from to make up a ‘squad’ of sorts for a FFOL type game would be a great start.  8)
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2024 = 0
(2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

I'd agree with both of you on that. As long as people can see what's planned that should be encouragement to buy into the range. Definitely looking forward to seeing some sculpts.

Steve, it will be another started range by gringi40 with some figures and missing support. So, I stay at the existing ranges with chance of support like empress... :(

Hopefully not Dirk, as this could be a great range and it would be a real missed opportunity if the interest shown at just the mention of the range, and nothing to actually see yet, is anything to go by. It is a very good point though if there are other ranges being developed (I've not actually seen anything about Empress though?) as unless they are going to be compatible on the table, it's going to need to be a well developed, comprehensive figure range to get customer buy in. Ged is certainly taking on a big challenge, but it's full of opportunity and hopefully we'll get an excellent line of figures to enjoy and not another Recon28. It could be a very exciting time for 28mm Vietnam gaming.

From the Empress FB page [Dec 12th 2018]:

Quote
Currently being sculpted are Americans for the Vietnam conflict. These will start with USMC figures for the Battle of Hue City 1968 so some exciting news there. Vietnam was actually the reason that Empress Miniatures was established just over 10 years back and we got diverted so its time for us to concentrate, for a change!

Apparently, they're aiming for the first of the USMC in March, and Paul Hicks is on sculpting duties. If the Gringo and Empress ranges are similar in size, I'll be a very happy bunny.  :D

The quotes I pulled are buried in a December conversation regarding what's on the horizon at Empress in 2019. I'll try and post pics once they show some previews (not in Mr Gringo's thread though!)  ;)

This would be my preference too.

I think posting here would be ok if they are comparison photos, it would be useful to compare sizes and sculpting styles, I'm sure I've seen it done in other threads.

Yes, may be able to get started on the project a little bit sooner, use the Empress stuff if it comes out first then augment it with the Gringo figures, or vice versa.
