To prepare for ordering the ARVN, when avalable, Does anyone have a ORBAT of an ARVN airborne Platoon / company ?

This may be a good starting point:

Nice link.

I think this comment on that list is the most important

"From what I can tell from all the reading over the years, ARVN infantry formations were very, very odd! Not one infantry division appears to be equipped and organised in the same way. On the whole they appear to be pretty much 'ad hoc' organisations, using whatever supplies were available for setting up new units. Even units that used the M16 by 1969 were using the M1 again by 1972!!"

In reference to painting ARVN Paratroops this is a useful film. I probably got this from Carlos at some point I cannot remember so thanks if I did.

The first 5 minutes or so seem to show pretty average ARVN but after that you start to see better equipped troops with a real mix of kit and uniforms. Worth a look.    ;)

The grave yard makes for some interesting urban terrain.

If you are interested in the Regional Forces/ Popular Forces (Ruffpuffs) who did much of the fighting and dying in the war then their organisational structure can be found here:

https://vietnam.unsw.adfa.edu.au/the-arvn-was-their-performance-misunderstood/

Hopefully Empress will do some Ruffpuffs at some stage. The marines in I Corps detached rifle squads to work with Popular Forces platoons as part of their Combined Action Program so you can create some interesting scenarios that sees a mix of USMC and South Vietnamese troops in a platoon level game.

Dear Paul E and Paul H,

These look wonderful as usual.

Please can you explain your plans - are you doing specific packs of figures for ARVN infantry, paratroopers, Marines and Rangers.

Apart from badges and camouflage, (which will be painted on), were there significantly noticeable differences in uniforms and equipment?

I have the impression that uniform cut and equipment were fairly standard, with the main difference being which units got M16s etc first.

Mick
