Another preview of a next 28mm Vietnam release. This time a member of the SASR wearing issue jungle greens and carrying a suppressed Stirling SMG.

The Stirling is something new to the Vietnam battlefield. It had a reputation for reliability and accuracy so when the suppressor is added it makes the perfect special forces killer.

The pack is a cut down Bergen.

On one operation whilst the SASR patrol waited silently for the VC a Gibbon sneaked up and stole the troopers pack and ran up a tree shouting loudly. Sadly for all concerned the Gibbon refused to return his loot and the Stirling was used. The patrol then beat a hasty retreat out of the area as their position was compromised.

On the next patrol the Gibbons got their own back and chased the patrol through the jungle throwing their pooh and screaming and the SASR had to be extracted.

Tough life in the jungle when the enemy is everywhere. 😉

Nice mini.  I could find several uses for him.  I like the look on his face - like his shorts are chafing or something... :D

Very similar to the scene in The Odd Angry Shot where Bung goes looking for "the prick who's pinched my pack" As it was written by an ex SASR trooper, it was probably based on it. Yet another cracking figure.

I'm intrigued that the sterling was considered accurate, because all those James Bond henchmen using them couldn't hit the side of a barn (from the inside).  :D

Gibbon’s Decline and Fall…..

Lovely sculpt, looking forward to the polar opposite of stealth…a trooper toting ‘the Bitch’.

It wasn't "largely unsuccessful" otherwise they wouldn't have used it.

I haven't got a copy of that book. I do know that shotguns can't achieve the same results as suppressed SMGs. The Sterling was chosen by various SF units in the 60/70s as it fulfilled their needs. I've just noticed that you've deleted the post I'm replying to, and written "not going to argue"

Probably from whence any poor reputation stems.  lol

Truth is that any 9mm SMG is going to be fairly useless beyond about 50 feet. They used to say of the Owen and then the F1 that at 50 metres a wet blanket would probably suffice to stop the rounds. That's assuming you could hit very much with an F1 at 50 metres to start with. With a silenced SMG in the jungle it's likely you are going to be using the damned thing at 50 feet or less. The US navy SEALS seemed to think the silenced Sterling was a useful bit of kit. Certainly less obtrusive than the standard bang-stick.

Here's hoping for some chaps with XM-148 grenade launchers. Much more common than the XM-203.
