Scenario ideas please!
« on: February 21, 2019, 03:40:01 PM »
I need help with scenario ideas for an upcoming 3-4 player BoB game please.

I am looking for some side story/plot twists to avoid a set piece 'line them up and go for it' type battle, as well as getting recent additions to my collection on the table for the first time. Trouble is, my creative juices just aren't flowing, which may mean I used up all my good ideas last time out  :D

Anyway, I have reasonably evenly matched forces for Reds, Whites and Chinese Warlord (inf, cav, MG, artillery, armoured vehicles) to work with plus the startings of a much smaller British/Indian intervention force, units of Mongol cavalry (for when the Whites are followers of the Mad Baron), a group of Chinese bandits and finally the usual Copplestone crowd of adventurers, archaeologists, foreign advisers etc.

The table can be up to 10ft x 6ft and the terrain needs to be desert, as I have some adobe type houses and palm trees I want to use as well as a city wall with corner towers and a gate house (courtesy of Tablescape).  That nice chap Rob Anderson (Northumbrian Painting Service) has just made me a fully armoured train out of a pound shop set, and come what may that is getting used!

I need a minimum of three sides (one each for the other players), and am happy to run the game as a non- playing umpire if needs be. The default option would be Whites and British defend the city from a Bolo attack supported by the train (possibly with the British coming on late as a relieving force) but I am hoping to do better than that!

If anyone has some brainwaves they are happy to share to spice the game up it would be a real help. lol

I got this from another source. It is also a different time period but many of the scenarios would still be valid. Getting them to unit strength however....

I’ve been thinking of the possible scenarios that I could set up for this project, which is focussed on a post colonial, retreat from empire, counter insurgency operation, in an as yet indeterminate ‘imagi-nations’ location, not unlike East Africa or South Arabia.

So far the list looks a bit like this, with all missions being set for the British platoon but with matching objectives, victory conditions etc for the rebels:

-Setting an Ambush.

-Intercepting supply lines.

-Capturing arms caches.

-Hearts and Minds.

-Escorting a supply column.

-Night patrol.

-Night raid on rebel camp.

-Rescue the downed pilot.

-Blow up the downed aircraft / damaged vehicle.

-Mine / IED clearance.

-Escort the visiting politician / journalists.

-Rescue the ex-pat oil workers / missionaries / journalists.

-Helo Air assault on rebel held village.

-Find the rebel leader.

-Protect the civilians villagers from rebels attack.

-Road block traffic search.

-Punitive raid to confiscate livestock / crops.

-Stop rebel infiltration across border line.

-Link up with / insert / extract Special Forces.

-Infiltrate across border to set trap / mines.

-Blow up a bridge / railway / road  in rebel area (not sure why but why not?)

– as above but repair.

-Capture prisoners for interrogation.

-Defend supply dump, forward base, polling station, oil refinery, radio station or whatever.

-Amphibious raid on rebel coastal strip.

-Field test the new bit of kit

-Find that camel!

…and wherever else you can think of to fill in any gaps that I’ve missed.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks.

Jim

Dr. Scratchnsniff’s archaeological expedition was wildly successful. Now, his team just has to get their finds loaded onto the train before anyone shows up to confiscate them.

Or the archaeological expedition was really just a cover for a preliminary petroleum survey.  British Petroleum, Royal Dutch Shell, the Rockefeller interests, the Soviet Govt., etc.,  are all vying to lay claim to/buy up leases on the potentially rich new field (the true owners of which can be disputed as between various tribal groups, Mongols, Chinese Warlords etc.)  The objective can be protecting/kidnapping the various tribal claimants (who may resist such "protection of their interests"). while also protecting the territory on which drilling will commence (or trying to sabotage such operations).

I was toying with a scenario where there is a downed plane(s) and the various forces are trying to capture the plane themselves. They each have some pilots themselves and can use said plane if they get it into the air.
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

These are in a Pulp setting but might be useful to covert (there are lots of other ideas on our site) http://www.morvalearth.co.uk/Morvalonesia/Mvnsia_Games/Mnsia_Intro.htm
