OGAM - Amazonian
« on: February 25, 2019, 02:46:51 PM »

A new project as i have al ready the core troops made from 28mm Tupi from Coppelston collection.

Then a good occasion to create some specials new creatures for the Legends and gods.

See here a little selection about what i mean :

and i start the work with the Mapinguari, based on a Reaper Bones Yeti chieftain.
A cross over between a one-eyed Bigfoot and a giant sloth with a second jaw in the belly.

like that :

The beast is in action of course. A gore vignette !

Cheers
Eric

Thank you nic,

and here it is a new Legend :

the "fire" giant snake, Boitata or the black snake; Boiuna

i think i'll get the fire snake option because it's give me more idea to convert this beautiful monster (bought again in AliExpress - Very cheap and great figurine).

Comparison scale with an Inca Foundry.

cheers
Eric

At the risk of sounding pedantic the Tupi peoples are not really inhabitants of the Amazon, although they almost certainly originated there but they moved to the coast several millenia ago.

That chart is interesting. It’s certainly the first time I have seen the bull from the Bumba meu Boi festivities described as a mythological creature. It’s simply a bull costume in what is essentially a folkloric pantomime, think of a pantomime horse. I suppose at least it has some connection with Amazonas as one the most famous celebrations of the tradition takes place in Parintins.

In similar vein Saci isn’t really an Amazonian feature. Heis a widely recognised character, as he featured in a very popular Brazilian children’s program and children’s stories. Typically Saci is portrayed as Afro-Brazilian.

Probably the most Amazonian of the creatures on that chart is the Boto Encantado but I’m not sure what gaming potential there is for a pink river dolphin that emerges from the water to get women pregnant.

Nice work on the figures btw.

I have insert the chart only to give an idea of the topic and a selection of monsters... :D

For true ancient mythologic creatures, it' ll be necessary to make some researchs by your own for designing your Legends. There is a lot of mixed folklores and origins (african, brazilian, etc..), and periods in the brazilian world.

May be the best way is to take a Tupi universe as a base for your list. i found on Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.fr/pin/555702041521476639) idea about Guarani-Tupi mythology only.

When i write "amazonian" that's a generic name.  ;) i'll pick up all the creatures i like or that could give a good conversion work.

Were you to type in a search of ‘mitologia Tupi’ or ‘mitologia Tupi-Guarani’ you’ll find a lot more interesting artistic interpretaions to inspire you. Of course as it’s principally an oral rather than visual culture and these are mythical creatures you won’t go far wrong from some basic descriptions.

A good a start point as any.

i start the work on the giant fire snake...

i drill a (big) hole in the snake's throat to insert the led...then the electric wire 'll run on the back to reach the base and the battery through a body's hole.

A picture will follow soon.  ;)

 :o :o

Another Pantheon!?!

Blimey, I am having trouble finishing my first two, Greeks and Norse, (but they are nearly there now...) before moving on to the Celts and Egyptians properly.

I like the idea and the first couple of Legends look great.
