15mm anti tank guns — on a base?
« on: March 05, 2019, 01:39:31 PM »
Having the AT guns and crew made for my upcoming 15mm late war Germans and wanted to see whether gamers more often put their AT guns on a base or on the tabletop. Thanks.

I base mine, I have to admit that I base also vehicles  lol . But, on the other hand, I have never seen unbased AT guns (or artillery, or infantry guns) in 15mm.  I have seen unbiased ones... that always punch holes on my tanks...

Surely have to be based as too delicate otherwise.

The lone (so far) unbased vote driven by the figure=ground scale of the rules I use (CoC).  The fewer 'that's not really there/that big' bases that have to be accommodated -or worse: wreck play by getting in the way- the better.  It also makes casualty removal easier.

Whatever delicacy issues exist are, imo, made up for in the ability to make it look more 'in place'.

I play CoC too and would agree for 28mm and even maybe 20mm but for 15mm I think the smaller guns may get damaged

If you need casualty removal either magnetise the crew or what I have done is a small base just big enough for the gun and gunner and separate bases for the rest of the crew.
After all when you lose the last man the gun is usually lost too!

I've managed to base my 15mm guns on pennies or two pence pieces by themselves. I can still remove the crews individually (also on pennies) at whim. I did base one 6lber on a FIW base as a tester, but decided to not do anymore like that unless the crew needs to be incorporated (like sitting on the gun!).

Toying with basing my tanks currently..

Some are but the one I posted a pic of is cast in only 2 parts the barrel is separate so quite sturdy. All the guns I have from Forged in Battle are cast in only 1 or 2 pieces.
