How do I do watereffect on bases?
« on: March 10, 2019, 10:56:02 AM »
Finished some models of late and I wanted to put them on swampy bases.
I figured I'd just paint some black green on the base where I wanted water and put some gloss varnish on it, but it just doesn't look wet.

So I decided I'd use some of the watereffect I'd bought a while ago for another project and...
I got the wring one. This one was for waves and ripple effects.
Surely this'll come i handy one day, but today is not that day....

Considered clear nailpolish, but the interwebs says that steff yellows or even disappears overtime.

Anyone got some advice? Or am I just stuck with ordering some good watereffect and waiting till that arrives?

Curious.  I use acrylic gloss and get pretty good results for "wet" water.  Maybe it is the combination of colors underneath your gloss?  Perhaps find a "high" gloss acrylic, it does come in steps - though you might have to visit an art store to get it.

I have a similar challenge upcoming with some crocs and hippos for my Africa animals.

I've used vallejo gloss varnish. It usually is glossy enough, but this is the first time I wanted it to look wet instead of shiny.
It really doesn't cut it.

I'll check the craft store. Failing that I mihjt be abe to get my hands on some yacht varnish.

Thanks.

Evo-stik Express epoxy, dries clear & hard. Used it for swamp zombies.

Bud, I have a bottle of Vallejo (Still) Water Effects; you can use what you need from it... :)

I personally like the Artists Gloss Medium.  Be aware though, applied thickly, tasks a long time to harden up.
