Late 17th century uniforms?
« on: March 11, 2019, 04:58:38 PM »
I am looking for some uniform colors for late 17th century uniform.  Specifically, I am looking for uniform colors that woulld look convincing as French, english, spanish or Dutch.  I would like to paint all of my firelock blood and plunder in a single style, but usable for any of tbe main factions in blood and plunder.  It doesn't have to be accurate to any 1 faction if it looks convincing for all.  Thank you for any help!

In the 1690s French troops aboard ships and in the Caribbean were "Compagnies Franches de la Marine", in greyish-white uniform, blue cuffs pants and socks.

Spanish Marines were in blue or yellow I think (with cuff a different colour), and British in red. That would be difficult for accuracy if you want them to do all factions...  ::)

White or grey with red or blue cuffs would be a good choice for a fair number of countries, but grey is unusual for British troops, red is much more common. I'm not sure you can get away with a single colour to be plausible for all nations.

Check this http://www.oocities.org/ao1617/weapon.html for Spanish uniforms. The marine ones seem to be quite colourful!

I've heard that there were two Spanish Marine regiments (?)

— Tercio Vejo de la Armada de la Mar Oceano: blue coat, red cuffs, red vest, blue pants, red socks.

— Tercio Nuevo de la Armada de la Mar Oceano: yellow coat, blue cuffs, blue vest, blue pants, socks ...red or blue (depending on sources).

However I'm not certain of everything (I don't speak Spanish).
