That Hellcat looks very crisp and clean! Is it a plastic model?

The figures themselves are a little too chunky for my liking but your painting is absolutely superb! The different camouflage schemes look splendid.

Thanks, greatly appreciated!
Still not sure what to do about those barren bases though. :D

As far as their chunky-ness is concerned - Yeah, they are way more heroic than the Empress miniatures., though I still like them.
But in the back of my head there are already plans for a second German force using the Empress Volksgrenadiers. ;)

Yeah, it's the plastic kit by Warlord/Italeri. Nice kit!

The added stowage is a mix of Warlord and Rubicon.

I'll second that, lovely stuff. I'm about to start painting some Early War Germans, and I am still struggling to get a 28mm painting style I like. All the images are really useful. One thing I have noticed is that everyone's flesh painting is way better than mine. Most of the online tutorials i have looked at seem immensely lengthy for bulk wargames figures, so is there a relatively easy way to get something like these results?

Thank you very much! :)

Here is how I painted the flesh:

1. Base: Citadel "Cadian Fleshtone"
2. Wash: Citadel "Reikland Fleshshade"
3. 1st Highlight: Citadel "Cadian Felshtone"
4. 2nd Highlight: Citadel "Kislev Flesh"

To me this is a simple and fast way to get a result I am happy with.

Thanks I will give it, a go. I notice a lot of people use a darker base than I do, my technique with 15s was a base flesh (Vallejo), wash with either Peat Brown Ink or Agrax Earthshade, then base flesh and a highlight with pale flesh (Vallejo) - which sounds very similar, although your result is a much redder shade. I might experiment with a different wash, and not using so much 1st highlight.

Yeah, that does indeed sound similiar. Like you said the difference is in the wash. At first I also tried using Agrax Earthshade, but I wasn't happy with the result. Hence my switch to Reikland Fleshshade, which is responsible for the reddish shade you refer to. :)

Nice work on the GIs and the Germans.

I would suggest for ground cover a mixture of static grass and ground foam "turf" mainly in burnt grass flavours.

Peco do some nice green brown Tufts (longer static grass in UHU type your bases) which look good. Other tuft manufacturers are available.

Excellent work all round! Great brushwork!
There’s a chap in Australia who makes excellent tufts. He is called Leadbear’ tufts on Facebook.

Yep, Leadbear tufts, best I have ever used. They actually stick! And I need to stock up very soon.

Here is an officer to lead the Germans:

Somehow he looks almost cartoonish the way he is posed and wearing that big fur coat and the iron cross. Or maybe that's just me.  :D
