Abridged?  I read all 3 years ago - what a lot of words!

Enjoy, Jeff

A great listen. Can anyone recommend a ebook version in English?  (What a great novel to have as a school text. So much better than ‘The Woman in White’, for example  ;D .)

I guess cutthroaty aristocrats stealing each other money were more emblematic to XIX century England culture than keeping national spirits high under oppressive occupation but it resulted in less exciting literature for  young boys and wargamers   ;)

You’re probably right, AWu.  My wife has often tried to convince me that The Woman is White is “great literature” and Mr. Collins a master novelist. I guess being forced to read anything at age 15 is guaranteed to put you off it.  ;D

Very much enjoying By Fire and Sword nearly 40 years later!  Definitely helping me get into the Eastern Europe ‘vibe’.  :)
