visualizing Metro 2033?
« on: March 30, 2019, 02:08:34 PM »
All,
I'm trying to decide what figures out there are best suited to resemble the monsters in Metro 2033.  I've looked at the Reaper catalog, and spotted something called a Vorvokola, that seems suited to the winged demond, and their Yeti may work for the Librarians, maybe the Ghast for Dark Ones.  What do you all think?

i'd say the Vorvokola would work well enough as a Demon, at least a smaller one. another option would be the Reaper "Bat Demon" (available in both metal and Bones materials)

you could probably use both, either as different species or as variations within the species (they are mutants after all) the various reaper gargoyles would probably work as well. the Vorvokola probably would work great as an Upyir, seen in Metro2034.

the Yeti looks like it would work good for the Librarians, splitting the difference between the book and video game versions.

i'm not sold on the Ghast as a dark one.. it might work but Dark Ones were generally presented as being less bestial. but you could probably use the Ghast, as well as the "sinspawn" (image below) to represent the blind hominids that were attacking Paveletskya in Metro2033 and Metro2034, which were labelled by the residents fighting them as "Newcomers".

there are quite a few options for additional enemies as well, thanks to to both the books and the games.

reaper's Moor hound would probably work as a particularly large Watcher

while the goblin wolves would probably also work for the rest of its pack

Reaper also has a bunch of spider figures (including some spider swarm things) that would work for the spiderbugs of the videogames.

no problem. as a fan of the book and game series, i've often been tempted to attempt adapting the setting to 28mm, but there was never much interest in small scale skirmish games anywhere i was. especially since i never found a ruleset that would fit well for it. (though if i had, the resulting games probably would have ended up looking like a mix of Metro, Postman, Stalker, and Mad Max. as i like all of those)

hope to see what you come up with.

I've actually been using Pulp Alley, while waiting for Zona Alfa to be released.

it occurs to me that if you can find the right replacement heads, you could probably use Kroot bodies from warhammer 40K (with weapons removed) to make dark ones.
