Whiteout - polar stuff
« on: March 31, 2019, 10:40:28 PM »
What started out as a bit of a fun build of the Tucker Sno-cat has sort of snowballed...

I started kicking the idea of a Co-op/solo polar exploration game after watching 'The Thing' (the later one not the 50s one)   So after a plea on here for a bit of help it turns out Chris has a kickstarter for exactly the right minis!  So I basically ended up drafting Whiteout

You take you intrepid team of 3-6 explorers into the arctic tundra to carry out the bidding of a pretty shady government.  Your plausibly deniable (and extremely expendable) crew are sent off to clean up various government messes on the quiet while the environment, local fauna and the opposing government's troops do their best to kill you.

The concept is one of random terrain generation and random encounters all driven by cards (3 decks of standards playing cards will do but proper cards will be available eventually).  No two missions will be the same and the game will hinge around hording stuff to stay alive while actually getting the job done before you freeze to death or lose the plot... Add in a dose of paranoia, submarines and polar bears for good measure.

Currently the game is in the early stages of alpha testing and clarifications where my perfectly formed rules unravels for want of a comma...   lol   I've also been schooled on wolves and whiskey.

Fortunately I've got a decent bunch of testers who aren't worried about upsetting me  :(  Which is exactly what is needed from the playtesters!   :D

More will follow.
Rich

Awesome! I think Chris was working on something like this as well.

Isn't there an OOP model of this somewhere? I'm getting vague memories, but maybe that's just age...  lol

Yep.Copplestone had a couple of different vehicles.
I do belive Rich's version will sit more comfortablely with the Pulp miniatures figures.
Rich, I'd recommend open hatches and removable roof.Or a slightly more useful version from a gaming point of view . Would be a flat bed.
As I've seen the Copplestone one used in a couple games where its little more than a odd shaped brick holding down the mat. It doesn't lend its self to much interpretation or provide any plausible area to place figures when gamed with.Which is a shame as its quite a signific piece of kit on a winter themed table.
Still the speed your knocking these ideas out with is impressive

Mark.

Good idea.  The internal layout is very simple.

been chopping it up a bit (electronically!)
I've now got a hollow cab with basic dash and seat and hollow rear cabin.
The roof is removable and in two parts too.
I'm going to open up the roof hatch too.

I've also made a 'what-if' open load deck in the style of a flat bed truck of the era.

It's pretty tiny despite how it looks!  It will fit on th eback of a flat bed truck!

Thanks, only fiddly bits still to go.
Door handles and hinges
Check the suspension (looks a bit simple at the mo)
Bonnet and grill details
Might make another rear hull with windows.
